The closing of the OT thread

There was a thread in the feedback forum discussing this that had some very good points until it strayed way off topic (the irony)

It would be nice to have a fair and open discussion about what we are going to do about the OT thread. Under what conditions it could re open etc.

I had a reply written to the other thread but its now closed, so here it is:

This thread is a bit of a nightmare. It was supposed to be about the closing of the OT thread. Tbh when I logged on yesterday afternoon to check motors and went straight to the OT thread as I'm sure a lot of people do I was really dissapointed when I saw that it was closed. I was also pretty angry at the way in which it was closed.

I have been involved in a few forums on boards over the years and none of them had the same craic and sense of community as motors, the main reason for this is the meets and the OT thread. you can't really have one without the other... Without the OT thread and being allowed to stray from topic in other threads the Motors forum will just be a glorified car troubleshooting forum with interesting threads like "which car has best mpg" and "is my dpf blocked"

while I think the mods do a great job on motors the most recent closing of the OT thread was way over the top and reflects badly on them. there was no reason to close it and unless someone is attacked personally or breaks a site rule the mods have no place trying to steer the discussion back towards cars. ITS A MOTORING FORUM that's why were all here, the conversation will be motoring related 80% of the time if the thread was allowed to breath and police itself.

If we made the OT thread in after hours could we talk about whatever we like? I know it will be invaded by AH numpties until the novelty wears off but atleast then we could have our OT thread? Or would it be moved back to motors?

Im not trying to stir shít, I loved the OT thread and so did many other Motors forum regulars, thats why the original feedback thread was started. A lot of us PM'd each other to raise awareness of that thread but it ended in a brawl!

I was going to post a thread like this last night but said Id sleep on it because I didnt want to cause hassle. but I still feel strongly about it and im sure others do to.

Thread stays closed. This is not AH. If you want AH style chat the door is that way.

Anyone who starts another thread on this subject faces an immediate 1 month ban.
