Installing SSD in a 2011 27" iMac

    Does anyone know of a place that does the above and roughly the cost
    I want to keep my original hard drive and use the SSD as the boot drive

    Would be interested in knowing this as well, got a referb model for my 27" back in December and rather then opt for the referb with the ssd I went for one with 3.1 quad core

    I took one apart as well. It's was fare more involved that I would have liked but the SDD did make a big difference to my iMac. That said, unless you technical minded and patient, it's not worth the hassle, stress or time. Macs just meant to be tinkered with like PCs and it will affect your warranty.

    Typetech perform this service. I think they charge between EUR250 to 300

    Looks like a pain to do, worst part would likely be dust under the screen afterwards, well it would for me anyway. I reckon it'd be a great thing to do though. I find the Air with the SSD is so much faster than the iMac. But, lack of a clean room would put me off doing this myself.

    It's possible to get the dust out with a can of compressed air. It is a pain though.

    After watching some you tube vids I've decided to add one as a second drive, hope everything goes smoothly

    Finally got around to installing it today and all went well, noticeable increase in speed and start up
