I've noticed recently in Dublin a fair few taxis are using van tyres, mostly the mpvs.... What's the legality on this?

    Just out of curiosity :)

Many MPVs leave the factory on van tyres, the MPVs are prone to carry more than a normal car/saloon so the tyres have the stronger sidewalls. Once the speed rating is ok you can have van tyres on cars if they are the correct size etc.

In the UK and Ireland I thought the Carnival was a Sedona? Not sure, the KV6 resides in some of them.

Thats in the original Sedona but I think the Carnival was the later model that superseded it

My old Opel combo used to have a mix of van and car tyres.

Car tyres on the front and vans on the rear

car tyres on a van wont pass doe but I dont see a problem the other way around. Van tyre is a higher spec than average car tyres.

They passed 3 times for me.

    Opel combo.

2 car tyres fitted on the front and two van tyres on the back where the load was

Dont think that would pass in my local doe. they failed an escort van with car tyres on the front 4 years ago. I swapped wheels front to back in their car park and they passed it. Rediculous.

Strange my local DOE center wasn't well liked for failing cars but it always passed it on tyres

Cheers for clearing that up people, just that most of the van tyres I deal with are low speed rated (N rated tyres anyone? :p) but these ones must be higher. Mostly on MPVs like Sedonas, Voyagers, Zafiras etc. Will have a gander if I get the chance!
