Ah the turbo engines. Ten players, three different configurations.

Inline 4: BMW, Hart & Zakspeed.

V6: Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Motori Moderni, Porsche & Renault.

    V8: Alfa Romeo.

For the 1986 season, teams could only use turbocharged engines.

Alfa developed a V6 inline-4 cyl turbo for Ligier in '87, but never raced it because it was uncompetitive, and they took great offence when Renie Arnoux publicly denounced it !

Thereafter Alfa also commenced development of a V10 but that too never saw F1 service.

Arnoux compared the 4 cyl Alfa engine to used food.

So in 1987, Alfa were offering two specs, an turbocharged inline 4 to Ligier which never raced and a turbocharged V8 to Osella.

Enzo Osella got fed up with the engines Alfa were providing that he was happy to see the back of them. Alfa were fed up with the negative publicity generated about the engine that they demanded Osella to rename the engines to Osella and remove the Alfa Romeo name from their car which was named Osella FA1L.

The six year relationship only yielded 2 points.
