I have lived in my current address since last July and have been getting letters from Littlewoods with a name that's not mine (assume it's the person who lived here before me). I had written on all the letters 'not resident at this address' and put them in a post box to send them back. The letters kept coming anyway so I rang Littlewoods in February and explained, I sent them an email too, I rang them a month ago to explain as well. The first time I rang Littlewoods the fela said open the letter, I did, blah blah blah, the amount on the letter was 530 euro owed, the fela told me everything was sorted now.
Okay, so today I was particularly dozzified and took my letters in and opened them without looking, one was from a debt collection place and said this is a 7 day notice to pay up or legal proceedings begin.
I apoligise for the long windedness of my post, my question is,
should I ring the debt company and explain I opened the letter by accident (which was marked private and confidential btw) or just leave it as they are not addressed to me and not my problem?

It's an offence to open post that is not yours.

tell your local post office that mail for that person should not be delivered to you.

If any registered letters come for that person do not sign for them on any basis - tell postman/woman person not there.
