My sky subscription is due to end in a few days. Sky+HD Box

I have a new combo box Arivia 120 ready to replace it with.

Is there Any reason why I should wait till my subscription runs out before connecting up the new box.

No and in fact when your subscription ends sky sends a special signal via satellite to disable recording in your box. Some people have found by putting it in a press for 6 months and putting it back again made recording possible again, it was never disabled. However 6 months is a lot of patience.

that's mainly what I was wondering, do I have to leave the Sky box connected until they send this signal.........

If I remove the box before sub ends will they be hounding me to re-connect it so they can disable the recording.

Surely they will know when they try to send a signal and it is not received or bounces back.

You can stick your Sky card in the Ariva & it will work till your sub ends.

No. If the box is not connected to a phone line then there is no way for them to know if the signal sent via satellite arrived at all.

Some web searches on the topic should bring up more reliable time lines. Ideal if you have a combo box.

Like Sky say, the box is yours!

This may have worked with the old Blue cards but it definitely does not work with the Current White cards.

I'm not interested in re-using the sky box I will be selling it anyway.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread - but does the 120 actually have a card slot? And would it work with my Sky card?

No. You need special software for the 120 to work with a Sky card which is illegal. Consider yourself gagged!

Not true, in my case anyway. I have a Freesat from Sky card for the past few years and it worked on the Ariva without any software adjustment. I got LiverpooFC tv, Motors, Pick & + 1, (formerly Sky 3.), Sony tv & + 1. Most interestingly it also decoded the 5 family, as they were not fta at the time.So a full $ky card should work as well. IIRC, some posters here have said they could get full $ky cards to work in it.

IIRC Steveon has said here that he has a white card which records for him. Hopefully he'll see this thread and give a definitive answer.

I know I had a couple of white cards myself that recorded (taken out of box before sub ended) and I put them away for 5 or 6 months and when I tried them again they recorded for about half an hour and then shut down completely, cant even get the FTV channels on them!
