16:30 Punchestown AES Champion Four Year Old Hurdle

Darroun will have conditions to suit tomorrow. He has had two excellent runs in softer going in Ireland just loosing out to Shadow Catcher and beating Hisaabaat showing excellent resolution both times. Admittedly he got run of his feet in the vastly different Triumph Hurdle, but that has resulted in him being a big looking 14/1 for tomorrows race. I think the grind of tomorrows race will suit him and he can confirm form with both horses who are far shorter in the betting.

    14:00 Sandown, Bet365 Handicap Hurdle

Star Of Angels was selected by me at Aintree but he clearly didn’t stay the trip. He has good form on softer going and is back to probably his best trip tomorrow. He was a very consistent horse before his very long break and did win a decent Handicap on soft ground this year. He still looks on a decent enough mark for his best form and in a very open race could well outrun his 12/1 price at the moment. I got a small bit of 14/1 but that is gone now.

15:10 Sandown bet365 Gold Cup Chase

Ouzbeck is just a case of price. He is far too big on Betfair, and although he supposedly wont act on Soft ground, really there is no way of knowing as he has hardly ever faced it before. His last run was obviously eye catching, where he ran like a pig but flew at the end. There wont be many tomorrow finishing with any speed, and although me might get behind early on hell be still capable of getting involved. He is off a very workable mark considering he has run well of 10-11 lbs higher. The 27 win on Betfair looks too big and worth a small bet.

    15:50 Punchestown Guinness Handicap Chase

Dancing Tornado has been a very consistent chaser for the last year or two. He was poor in the Cross Country this year at the festival, but it didn’t appear to suit him from the start and this 2m4f chase will be much more to his liking. He has a decent enough looking spin over hurdles earlier this month and given that he is 4lbs lower than his good 5th in the Kerry National on Soft Ground the conditions that prevail tomorrow shouldn’t pose a problem. He has a nice racing weight here and if the application of first time blinkers can improve him at all the current price on Betfair is going to look very good.

    1pt win 25 Betfair

    Can't find a Namushka? Where's he/she running and when?

No concerns regarding the ground? The run behind Pimpernel suggests he's definitely on a fair mark anyway. Might have a nibble!

First run of the year on this type of ground would be a serious worry for me.

15:10 Sandown bet365 Gold Cup Chase
Viking Blond is still a novice and has run well a few times this year. He was very disappointing in the Welsh National, but has shown a liking in the past for softer ground. He’ll be in here with a very nice racing weight of 10:00 and that will have to help for this stamina test. For me it is somewhat significant that he is sent out again on soft over the long trip after that poor national run, and his trainer is in cracking form at the moment. He seems to have an excellent chance of placing at least and the 20/1 with 5 places available on paddy Power looks too big.

4.30 Punchestown - Balder Succes 15/8 PP (missed 9/4 last night)

Robert Thornton was torn whether to ride this lad or Grumeti at Cheltenham, Alan King couldnt split them either, but with the ground riding on the good side Choc went for Grumeti in the end who finished 3rd. BS unfortunately fell early at Chelt under Hutchinson so its hard to know what the outcome would have been. Grumeti then came out and won well at Aintree..
If King and Choc found it hard to split these 2 at home, with the ground now ideal for BS, he should be able to pick this race up on his way to better things.

    Roberto Goldback - 3.15 Punchestown Eachway 16/1 bet365

This lad has had a busy auld season with 7 runs since November under his belt. Im going back 3 runs for his best and the most relevant piece of form, behind today's favourite Quel Esprit in the Hennessy Gold Cup in February. RG was beaten 2 lenghts into second and was flying at the finish while QE was tiring rapidly. The ground was described as good to soft that day, and i think QE could be found wanting at the finish today on the heavy ground, while my lad will love it and will stay all the way to the line. Paul Carberry rides for the first time and i think RG has a very good chance.

    Good luck :D

I fancied Balder Success on the ground but missed just about every price so will leave it (Powers briefly went 7/2)

    6.05 Doncaster

    Hurricane Lady 8/1

Too hungover for a write up but really fancy this one. Makes her debut for Mike Murphy today having joined the yard back in September and she looks to have a fair bit of improvement left in her.Only 3lb higher than a head second back in August last year. Only a 4 year old, she has run well fresh in the past and this is the sort of horse Mike Murphy excels with. Kieron Fallon booked today and although the ground is a bit of an unknown, the yard have had her long enough and I don't think they'd bother risking her on ground she wont like.

Anyone else have a pain in their bollox?

Was having a good festival but my three biggest bets of the week by a mile were Catleen, Balder Succes and Une Artiste. Once again ****ing drink has cost me, had Hisaabaat in my tracker and forgot to back her :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Anyone know if you can buy good luck somewhere cause I need loads of it

No, you only get your money back if they are withdrawn before the off. I am seriously considering this betting lark having got badly burned twice this week with it.

Cathleen is in this upcoming race??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf
