I used to have mmds with UPC, lovely big MMDS aerial on the chimbley.

switched to sky satellite 2 year ago. lovely big sat dish on the side of the house.

sick of the bills. dont watch anything on sky anymore so now I want to blow it away and get saorview and or Freeview.

Do I need saorview or can I get everything I need on Freeview?

If I need saorview can I use that mmds aeriel on the chimney?

Can I use my sky sat dish to get freeview and I have a sky HD box under telly downstairs, will it still record?

If I get saorview, can I plug it into the sky hd box and record on that?

    any answers appreciated. thanks.

If you want the Irish channels for free, you'll need Saorview.

The MMDS aerial won't work for Saorview, what you actually need will depend on the signal available at your location, you might get away with a simple indoor or attic aerial.

You can use the Sky dish & receiver for free-to-air (FTA) satellite channels. (Freeview is actually the UK terrestrial equivalent of Saorview).

I'm not sure what the story is with out of sub. Sky boxes & recording; officially the recording facility is disabled.

    >Do I need saorview or can I get everything I need on Freeview?

To watch RTE without a Sky subscription you need an aerial and a Saorview approved box.

    >If I need saorview can I use that mmds aeriel on the chimney?

No. You might be able to re-use the pole and cable.

    >Can I use my sky sat dish to get freeview

You can use the exact same dish to get FreeSAT not freeview.

    >and I have a sky HD box under telly downstairs,

You can still use yor Sky box to get the free channels after you cancel. Best to put them all on the favourites list (blue button) so you can skip past all the pay channels.

    >will it still record?

No it will not. Any recordings saved will also be lost if they are on a pay channel.

If you want recording pay for a Freesat+HD box. This will record all the free sat channels, but not RTE. A seperate box is needed for RTE.

    >If I get saorview, can I plug it into the sky hd box and record on that?
    No

If recording is important shell out for FreeSAT+HD box. There is no proper Saorview RTE recording box out yet, but there should be in the next year or two. Current boxes (the best ones) can only record what you are watching with no series link etc.
