College and career stresses

I am currently in the final year of my Arts degree, a history and English joint degree. I went into my degree with the intention of teaching. However, now that I am in the last week of it, I am coming too the realisation that this may be impossible. I couldn't get the hDip for next year so I have applied for a masters and I am entitled to have the fees paid (I think) if I get this course. However, I get barely a day a week of work in the hotel I waitress in and I feel I will barely be able to commute. Obviously if I could get a job in Dublin things would be easier but then so much would have to go on rent.
On top of this, how am I supposed to find 9000e for the hDip after all this?? I will not be able and worry I will end up spending several years saving up dole money, unable to get any sort of job.
I want to teach but I just don't think I can afford education in order to do this. I am so so stressed over this and don't know what I can do. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Things rarely turn out as you expect. A plan is good but sometime things take a while to fall into place.

I knew at 14 exactly what I wanted to do. An eye test later took me another 16 years to figure it out! Happier than I've ever been.

If its for you it wont go past you and other cliches :)

Are you sure that the fees will be paid? If I were you, I'd head over to the Student Finances forum and ask over there as someone might be able to provide information.

Have you considered teacher training in the UK? You may be entitled to a grant over there and you can pay the fees back when you start working I think, there is a shortage of teachers at the minute in the UK. A girl we know did this and worked p/t also. She said it was difficult but she got excellent training.

If you accept and complete the masters course here you will have more points if you wish to apply for the PGDE the following year.

Don't panic, you have plenty of options! Maybe visit the Guidance Counsellor in you college, can be good to speak to someone else! Good luck!

Another thing I would recommend you doing is speaking to your college career guidance officer. As far as I know, most are willing to speak to recent graduates. Also check with your local VEC, or whoever might be in charge of the grants. I was in to my career guidance office recently and was informed that it's become quite difficult to actually get grants for Master programs.
