How would you do off the ladies tees?

Be honest, you've often wondered walking past the ladies tees "what sort of score would I shoot off them?" Par 5s would be turned into par 4s and some of the par 4s would officially be par 5s. You'd need short - mid irons on par 3s where previously you'd had low irons and woods. In tramore I'd probably average about an 18 over 90. Off the ladies I think I'd manage about a 10 over 85. I'm happy with the assumption though, I'm not going to spoil it by actually trying it!

Don't knock it till you've tried it.
A pal of mine who is off 6/7, no GUI, has been told by his pro to play off the reds to get use to firing at the flag and to getting birdies. He has no problem telling people that he does this about twice a month. He is now shooting between mid and low 70s.
Just need him to get a GUI now, so I can stop him taking the money everytime we play.

There's a teaching pro who posts on another forum that i frequent who recommends that players who are already low do this on a regular basis to do exactly as you said, fire at the flag and get used to making birdies. Havent had a chance to try it myself, but this summer I definitely intend to do it.

I have to be honest and say I don't think many people would fair much better off the ladies tees than the gents tees.

Yes, the holes are shorter and you may be able to hit more fairways, but if you think about it logically and say on most par 4's you're left with about 100 yards to go, does the average golfer suddenly get really good from 100 yards in and start stitching their approach shots?

I think that people will still miss greens and hit very average approach shots and their putting will still largely be 'average'

I think the question golfers should be asking is, imagine how my score would improve if I really worked hard on playing the game from 100 yards in (including putting). I think most people would find that their score would improve dramatically without any major changes to their game, just by having a tidy short game.

This is why I think that playing from the ladies tees will not make that much difference for the average golfer...

There was a V Par competition in Castleknock a couple of months ago off the red tees. It made the course feel very strange. The winner, on count back, was 7 UP, and there were a couple of others on 6 UP too. I haven't seen scores like this from the whites in V Par.

There are 2 way to play off the reds. Practice course management and use irons or for the low hc use nothing but driver and 3 wood.
With the driver and 3 wood you will be firing passed all the trouble. Its not about practicing the 100yard shoots but more of a brain training exercise. Building up positive thoughts and the feeling of confidence for the lower hc.
Anyone in the mid hc range will not benefit as much as they generally struggle with distance control and a reliable swing.

On my own course I'd comfortably shoot 2-3 under par off the ladies tees .
Every par 5 would be reachable in 2 shots so I'd expect to birdie most of them .
I'd be hitting a wedge into every par 4 ,it wouldnt be a real test to be honest.
I sometimes play a few holes off the ladies if in a rush ,their tee boxes are usually very well maintained .:)

I reckon people wouldnt do as well as they think, now this depends on the course but a lot of courses would have narrower fairways the further up you hit them, or drains, ponds etc that would now be in range.
How often do you hear people saying they have driven the ball too far and have left themselves the dreaded half wedge that is then chunked 40yards down the fairway, this would be multiplied off the reds.

I think without a doubt, most people wouldn't do half as well as they think they would. To be honest, I think more society high-handicappers and beginners should play of Red tees... I play society golf almost every week and regularly play with people playing off 22-plus who can't play anywhere close to it off 'forward' society tees.
