I believe Imagine do a limited TV service but been honest you are probably better ff with a combo of eitheir Sky and BB service or FTA/BB

Unless you need Sky Sports get Freesat (free).
You need to buy Broadband separately.
    Mobile isn't broadband.
    Satellite Internet isn't broadband.
There are a very few locations with Fibre.
Dungarvan has its own cable Broadband
Fixed Wireless is usually really Broadband, but all are not equal.
A few areas have non-phoneline real broadband.

    Ask here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=259 (Broadband Forum).

It depends where you live and which channels you want.

UPC have wireless cable called MMDS in many areas. Ring them to check.

If you live in Dublin then there is magnet TV and broadband:
    http://magnettv.ie/

There is non UPC companies in some parts.

Put in your telephone number. Coverage is very limited

    The nearest to Sky+ is

Freesat HD+ box (live pause, series link etc) but no pay channels
    Saorview HD+box (not yet available)

With these there is no monthly charge, but an upfront charge of €400

If you just get decent broadband >3Mbps uncontended, there is Netflix, apple TV etc that work only via broadband, but don't really carry the normal channels we are used to.

Decent broadband depends on your distance from the nearest telephone exchange and if that exchange has been upgraded for contention free internet.

Some areas have fixed wireless internet, and other local providers

There is aertv.ie which stream RTE etc, depending on your internet connection.

Where exactly are you intending to live, and what channels are essential?

Imagine don't do any sensible Broadband or TV service anywhere. Very poor provider. Mix of ex IBB changed to MOBILE Wimax and eircom lines.

    Mobile/Nomadic isn't Broadband.

NO internet TV service is comparable with Magnet Fibre, UPC cable, Saorview, Freesat, Sky or MMDS. Magnet is very poor compared to Sky or UPC.

Forget MMDS as it has less than 2 years life (cut down version of Cable TV only, poor value, no Broadband).

Watty is right, best option if you just watch the likes of ITV,BBC,Channel 4 etc. is to get a freesat system, once off payment and no monthly bill.
Best option for broadband is purely dependent on where you live.As you can't get UPC then have a look in the broadband forum for advice.

thnaks for the reply i did a bit of research and the channels i watch im thinking of a freesat/ saorview combo and just go with a broadband provider there is a local one providing line rental free and theres eircom.

Im new to this Free to air business im looking at a self installation and the gear i need (could possibly be moving house again in a year or 2).

Im looking at this its built in freesat tuner and freesat HD tuner should eliminate the need for the receiver boxs right?

UHF antenna for Saorview HD reception

Freesat HD Dish bit pricer than a regular dish but worth it if im moving or thinking of changing to sky again?

One of these kits to install the free sat dish?

what you guys think? the tv is a bit of a luxury but im treating myself! :D

Tv looks OK, but very, very expensive. You won't even have ANY 3D content broadcast to it to watch. It's hardly cost saving.

Also it may record one channel, but then you have to watch the same channel.

It probably will not give the same features as a dual tuner Freesat+box

For freesat one of the big benefits is recording, series link etc. To go that route with a single tuner is not advisable.

I don't know if this set can be bought in Ireland with Saorview compatability. If not then your set is not 100% compatable with Saorview. Again recording, tv guide etc may not work properly.

Depending on where you are moving to the squish dish is only equivalent to a 50cm dish. Sky normally use a 60cm dish and even larger needed in parts of Kerry etc. It depends on where you are living
The Soarview aerial should be ok, but then again depends on how far you are from the mast.

The length of cable depend on where you are, it is often easier/cheaper to buy from local electrical wholesaler

If you have never set up a dish before I normally recommend getting a professional.

If you have won the lotto, go Sky for a year, then leave and go FreeSat twin tuner and Saorsat twin tuner.

Spend the money on the box, not the TV.
