How long before the wedding shoud one send out the invites.
I'm think 7-8 weeks beforehand, with maybe an extra week or 2 for invites going abroad (they all know about the wedding so have been looking at travel already).

say about 2 months before is the norm, personally I am getting married in November and I am sending mine out this weekend as I heard rumours of a lot of people who are not going for one reason or another so I want to know exactly who is going to decide is it worth even going ahead with or should we just cut or losses and elope

Generally, it'll be two months before. Caterers will ask for final numbers about 7-10 days before, so allow plenty of time to collate replies, and allow you to 'bump' up guests from the evening list if you get a lot of day declines.
