How long to get GUI number?

After a number of years of being a golfing nomad, I recently bit the bullet and applied for membership in a club.
Got notice this week that the application had been approved by the membership committee, and that my details have been sent to the GUI to get my card & number issued.
Just wondering, anyone know how long it takes (in general) for the GUI to process and issue the number?
Have played my three cards for handicap over the past two weeks, and just need the number to put on them. Have a work golf outing at the end of May, and would be great to have an official handicap back in time for it.

Usually only take a couple of days, has done in my case for the two clubs I've been a member of. You should have it shortly, no worries about end of May.

Got issued a new one last month, but from a new club, so not sure if that applies to your situation

New cards are not issued every year and only apply to new club members and lost cards, AFAIK.

Where there are delays in getting a new card, people should follow up with their club handicap secretary.

When you get your GUI number/card, are you also set up on Golfnet, or is this a separate process?

Just logon to Golfnet with your 8 digit GUI number and use ther default password "golfnet". You'll then be asked to change your password.

Just to shed some light (maybe)...

Registering a new member on Golfnet involves logging in to golfnet (as a club admin), entering the player details like name, d.o.b., membership category etc.
When that is done, the player is "created" and an 8 digit number is assigned immediately (it's visible on screen).
A new card is issued which takes a couple of days...

The player must also be set up in the club handicap software.
The GUI number that was generated on Golfnet is used here and provides the link.
The player can be set up with an "unknown" handicap and have one assigned later or you can set up a player and transfer in a handicap etc. You may not be set up until your handicap is known... this is down to what way the club do things.

So, once you're registered you have a number immediately. A card takes a few days and is sent to the club sec, not directly to you. You may not be given the card/number by the club until you have your handicap?

To the OP, you don't need the number to put on your 3 cards for handicap. Just write on the cards that they are "for handicap" (make sure your name is legible!), put them together in an envelope for the attention of your handicap secretary. No harm too in sending a text or a call to let him know that you have submitted them for a new handicap so that your club can kick of that process...
