I'm going to look at a car for my girlfriend. If its decent ill buy it.
    What happens with the logbook?
I want to have the car in her name.
Will I have to sign it when I buy it then change ownership when it comes back?
Don't really want to forge her signature.

You're gonna make yourself an awful lot of hassle!

Take the log book with you, get the selling to fill in everything, then get the GF to sign it and pop it in the post. Happy days :)

Really she needs to sign it, maybe put down a deposit when you view it, then bring her back to surprise her with it and sign?

The log book belongs to the owner, some people might not give it. There was another thread on here recently with a guy saying he gave the cert and the car was later being sold using his name and clocked.

Never, ever, under ANY circumstances (bar export) gives the buyer the logbook!

also means she can't object to the car on some weird, spurious point. (how it feels compared to identical cars of the same model and year).

was sent out to buy a washing machine recently. we discussed capacty, spin, colour, price, brand and energy rating.

I hit all according to her requirements, but wife considers the washing machine to be ugly...

you just can't win, that you are contemplating doing this without her mean it is the first significant purchase....

Bring her, I'm sure she'll want to test drive it.
