WD TV Live units have Netflix.

Note that the Live Hub unit (with the 1TB) drive doesn't support Netflix in Ireland.

Thanks man. Are they worth buying second hand?

Where's the best place to buy these anyhow?

They're about €100 new on Amazon. AFAIK Apple TV will also supports Netflix and iTunes movie rentals (which I hear is better than Netflix).

You do need to have a box that can run the latest firmware on it.

Does anyone know if an apple tv 1st generation will allow me to watch Netflix? Or other movie sites!?

    It has the following spec

    Able to play movies (XviD/DivX) preinstalled using the new famous and most up to date version of;
    XBMC - xbmc.org
    Boxee - boxee.tv

Boxee/XBMC and the standard AppleTV interface.

    Thanks guys

Just got an email from roku saying they have given me a full refund. Didn't explain why. I've mailed them asking for an explanation.

1st Gen apple tv doesn't have the processing power to run netflix well,
The 2nd or 3rd do though and you can set them up to stream US netflix quite easily.

Probably because Ireland does not have legal clearance for most of the services available on the Roku units in the states. If you buy locally say , from Amazon.co.uk , netflix will either be limited or wont work at all.

The same issues go for all the streaming services available on media units here in Ireland.

Plex on my mac mini , the netflix plugin doesnt work at all over here , same for xbmc ,

WDTV's , any model , do not have netflix in Ireland if you are using the latest firmware , you have to rollback to the last but one upgrade to have netflix.

Content is different for Ireland , we all know that at this stage , this is due to legal issues , and while you can get the US library by fiddling the IP address , it will only work for a while and then becomes very unstable.

I have an apple TV3 as well , and lately netflix doesnt work at all on it , US content is blocked after having it for while , and even the Irish content is flaky as hell now , it runs for about 20 minutes and crashes.

The vast majority of these media boxes were built with a US market in mind , for playing file based content they are great , streaming services on the other hand , are not guaranteed to work this side of the pond at all , if they do , its a bonus , so dont buy based on these services , your bound to be disappointed.

Nope, its not just me ... see here ...

Something tells me I'm being punished for accessing the US library for a month or so.

Net connection is 100mbps UPC , and works fine with everything else .... except netflix !
