Recommend me an upgrade

It's been 4 years since my last upgrade and I crave another one

I currently have a C2Q 6600 cpu (Reserator2 watercooled), on a S775 Asus P5K mobo. This uses DDR2 ram. I want to keep my PCI-E graphics card (silent, just heatsink) and my aluminium case (Lian-Li). My current DVD rewriter is IDE, so I need an upgrade there too. I'm keeping my SSD and other SATA hard disks

So what I need:

Mobo
CPU (want to watercool it using my current Reserator2)
DDR3 Ram
DVD writer

I do not game and I do not use it for video editing / cad etc. I just want it to be very fast in day to day use

There is no great urge to this. Is there a new generation cpu / socket coming out soon that is worth waiting for?

Budget: the lower the better, but please give me some options for say EUR150, 250 and 350. Thanks in advance!

Looks like the Reserator2 is incompatible with newer CPU sockets.

Luyolo did a great job there. 3 builds in 3 different budgets.

I would recomend i5 2500k build though. It is more money now, but after that build you can forget about upgrading for a very very long time. Even new ivy bridge has nothing on sandy 2500k.

Mind you the Intel I3 is no slouch..I built a budget pc for the young lad around the I3 and was well impressed with its performance as a non gaming rig that is..

One thing to add, I recently got a i5 2500k and a Asrock pro3 gen3 and if you plan to over clock its not the best, the voltage control for the CPU can only be set as an off set of the auto voltage.
I currently have mine OC'd at 4.2GHz and to get it stable I had to set the Vcore to 1.33V approximately (the voltage is not fixed) , this is still under the maximum stock voltage however is higher than the typical voltages for that chip at 4.2GHz and I think is limiting my stability for higher clocks. The over clock may be limited by the chip but I am more convinced that it is the core voltage.
I would suggest that you get a board where you can set fixed core voltages for over-clocking.
