    Hey,

I'm getting a message stating that the ps3 was not shut down properly last time it was used, says it is going to restart as the hard drive may be corrupt and may take up to 3 hours but when the console restarts nothing happens and it just stays on a blank screen, no introduction, progress bar, nothing

    Any help?!!!!

Did you try restarting it and turning it on again.

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds or so.

I did that but it just resets the display settings? Or is it a restore anyhow I did that and was prompted to change the display settings and after that I got the same message

Would you or someone you know be able to remove the PS3s HDD and then install and format it in a PC.

I'm sure I could try it out, couldn't be that hard? Is that really necessary though?

Formatting it in a PC will only resolve soft errors. The PS3 will format and encrypt it again once you put it back. It's worth a shot but I wouldn't hold up much hope.

What capacity disk is it? If the disk is fubar, then try this. If you see cheaper out there, make sure it's not thicker than 9.5mm or it won't fit in the PS3. For example, this won't fit as it's 1.3cm [13mm] although you may be inclined to buy it as it's cheaper.

When you restart the ps3 and get the blank screen, try switching off and plugging out(from the mains) the telly for a few seconds then plug it back in switch it on and see if you still have a blank screen.

For some reason, every now and then my ps3 goes blank but i can still hear the sound and a simple reset of the telly always does the trick. I have a 5 year old telly so its proabably that. Might not fix your problem but worth a shot before you go formatting drives.

Managed to Format the drive on the ps3, button pressing to get to eventual format!
