Im getting married in a few weeks. A very small wedding with only 35 people, mainly family attending. Dp is having his best friend there and ive invited my 4 closest friends.
One of my friends is pregnant and due 3 weeks after the wedding.
She said her boyfriend mightn't be able to attend due to work. He is a good friend of dps too. I text her yest to see if he was defo not coming cuz needed to finalise numbers. She said he wasn't going but if she was going she'd have to bring someone with her instead of him in case she went into labour so she wasn't gonna invite her mom.
Now she only gets on with her mom half the time. Only 2 weeks ago I had to listen to a week of ranting by my friend about something her mom had done. I've known her mom years and am not a fan. She isn't a very nice person and I really, really don't want her at my wedding. It would be different if it wasn't a small wedding but it is and I feel like I will really notice her presence. What would you do

I'm getting married in a couple of weeks as well - congrats! :)

If she is a close friend can you suggest she ask along a friend of hers that you know and like as a compromise?

Or if the wedding is that small explain to your friend that it is a really intimate and personal affair with only nearest and dearest there so perhaps her Mum come and stay with her for the night in their hotel room and let your friend come to the wedding by herself maybe?

It's a tough one as your friend is probably vunerable right now with an impending labour. despite not getting on the best with her mum, she might also be relient on her for the birth and early days of her new born.

Could you gently remind her of the rant she had a few weeks back and ask her would there be someone else she might enjoy the wedding with more.

If it was me I would grin and bare it, after all she can call her mother a bitch but if you do or imply it or say anything negative about her then it may be you who ends up being the actual bitch......

Its a few hours thats all, I'm sure you will be engrossed in the events that are surrounding you and not your friends mother and what is she really going to do i mean seriously is there a chance she is going to object at the church?? or bitch about the cake or say nasty things about your dress, you know she wont maybe afterwards but not there come on, and your friend is heavily pregnant chances are she wont last long at the afters anyway and the pair will be gone in no time, thanking you for a lovely evening...I'd just leave it I doubt anything major is going to happen and is it worth falling out with your friend over
