The SU elections in Tallaght

    Recently we had some election in the college for the president of the Student Union, Education Officer, Welfare Officer and a few other things I can’t remember…my question is what do these people do? Ok I know what the Welfare bloke does and he seems proactive enough at it but I’m missing the point of the others.
    The whole election thing seemed a total joke with only one candidate for many of these roles and the vast majority of them in some clique calling it “rock the vote”, it gave the election all the credibility of one run by Zanu PF in Zimbabwe.
    I’ve seen the President and the Education due floating around the canteen and sitting at reception selling tickets to event but that’s it. What were the other roles? I don’t even know.
    So we’ve got a president with stalinesque level 150% approval rating whose job, from all I can gather,is to chase the fresher girls like Fonzie from happy days round the canteen. Does all this cost money? I’m sure people here could update me so I’m not so blind to the wonders that these people do behind the scenes.
    I see they won some award in the Tallaght paper but I can’t still see what warrants so many of these people to do “stuff”.

    Could they do something useful and keep themselves busy by running the shop that's closed or maybe one of them could be replaced by a microwave in the canteen area..that would be far more productive for the students.

    Actually, why did the shop close? I was a little pissed off when I seen it boarded up :/

    AFAIK, it's up to interested parties to nominate themselves. Not exactly the current lads fault if no-one goes against them.

    One of our lecturers mentioned that the guy who worked in it was looking to take it over himself. The SU also want to take it over. I think thats why it's been closed, until it's been sorted out.

    Only seen this now, but the reason there's not as the canteen is run by Kylemore so it's up to them, they posted that on the ITT SU facebook a while back.

    +1. The SU doesn't really have much say about what happens, as it is run by the Kylemore.
