I picked up a PS3 at the start of the week, I had been toying around with the idea of building a new pc but couldnt be arsed to do it. Loving the PS3 so far, I got BF3 and Medal of Honour Tier 1 edition (preowned €15) when I bought it and MOH is rockin.

I had seen Black Op's and COD Modern Warfare 2 or 3 cant remember which one, are these worth picking up?

Cant believed I waited this long to get into it, last console I had was a N64!!

As for Call Of Duty series I'd bother only with the ones developed by Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare - excellent. Black Ops, World at War - waste of money IMO.

Given that it's subjective I'd go in order of worth buying:

    CoD: MW
    CoD: Black Ops
    CoD: World At War
    CoD: MW2
    CoD: MW3

OP, if you're looking for "must haves" then I'd start off with Uncharted 2, I loved the SP.. I'm sure some more posters will come along with their recommendations (I haven't played that many titles).

I love mine. I use it mainly for watching Blu Rays although I do have some games. The PS3 is the best Blu Ray player you can buy. That's not me saying that, it is a fact in the industry based on the processor it has inside for gaming.
I also love how it can wireless connect and see movies, music and video on laptops or desktops in your house, so long as they are also on the same router.
It's safe to say I'm in love with the PS3.

    1) Put CoD in the bin.
    2) Buy Uncharted 1, 2 and 3.
    3) Come back in a week and thank me.

Hopefully others will agree but my favourite games on the PS3 include Infamous. Enjoyable sandbox game.

And if you don't mind a wee bit of violence, God of War 3 is fun. :)

Oh and welcome to the world of PS3. :)

    Welcome to the family...
Like hotel California you can never leave.

Here are a few other suggestions.
    1. Blu Ray - get yourself some cheap blu-ray movies and fire up that beasty.
    2. Media - your PS3 can play avi/mp4 - so stream from a PC or use a memory stick.
    3. Netflix - yup it is there and works well if you can find content you like - just be careful if you have download throttling from your service provider.
    4. Music - as above and you have the apps to stream music as well.
    5. Photos - hope your camera is a high MP one - great to view slideshows.
    6. Games - Oh man - just great. Have not tried the move though - few games for me.

    Some game suggestions:
    1. Uncharted series - it is like playing through an Indiana Jones movie - this is how Tomb Raider was meant to be if they focussed on the gameplay and not her assets.
    2. Infamous - as above nice sandbox - can be repetitive but good fun.
    3. Ratchet & Clank - I know a kids game - but a great laugh.
    4. God of War - good fun, by the numbers button masher with timed moves.
    5. Assassin's Creed - you should be able to pick it up very cheaply. Good game but linear, can't explore like in Infamous.
    6. Oblivion - just google it.
    7. Skyrim - sequal to Oblivion - buggy as hell on the PS3 :( there are ways around it but only to the detriment of the game.
    8. Demon Souls - old style game "you're dead again go back to start" - challenging but weirdly rewarding.
    9. Dark Souls (just released) - sequel to Demon Souls - I am enjoying this much more - still get angry and frustrated though.
    10. Best for last - Resistance series - 1st and 2nd should be cheap now - but will blow you away - go get say the first one and the 1st Uncharted now and just kiss your life goodbye.

Like others here - we mainly use it now as a media center - and when the OH is gone to bed I get an hour or two of gaming in.

Tier1 - I traded this in after a few days - hated it just too boring and restrictive for me.
Great choice though in the console - hope you manage to free yourself for food and sleep occassionally... :)

If you like FPSs, give Killzone 3 a go. Cheap now and also very different from any other FPS I can think of. The multiplayer recently got a boost also from the MP section being released on the PSN as a separate purchase.

Not a FPS game OP but Heavy Rain I think is a must own for anyone with a PS3. Great game and didn't meet anybody who didn't like it. Can be got for less than €20 second hand.

+1 for KZ3. great game, both MP and SP. Very different from the others.

Have my PS3 over a year, bought it to play GT5 and it's never been used for anything else!. Must dust it off and try some of those recommendations.

And while you're at it, get the original MGS on the PSN Store too; assuming that you never had the pleasure due to being an N64 owner. ;)

I'd agree with Leeg regarding the order to buy the CoD games in. For the old CoD games, infinity ward were th e better studio but MW2 and 3 are total rubbish if we take online experiences into account. A Leeg said, this is subjective.

Infamous also gets my vote as do the uncharted games.

since you say you are into FPS's, may I suggest Bulletstorm. It got this "kill with skill" mechanic that was actually refreshing for an FPS. It's been out a while so you should be able to pick it up for cheap.

I would also agree with getting both the uncharted series and Infamous as well as Leeg17's order of which COD games to get.

hey lads. like the OP i just picked up a ps3 (well, it's still en route to me, bought online).

I like pretty much most game types but have a real love for games like MSG, and action adventure games (zelda series etc) what should i be looking out for?

Also a bit of an FPS head but only on PC, is it easy to transition from wasd + mouse to a controller for FPS gaming?

You'll find the analog sticks less accurate when aiming than the mouse

I assume you mean MGS. If so, there is the obvious MGS4. As for something like Zelda, look into Darksiders. Awesome game with many Zelda elements. Dirt cheap now too.
