I have a sky box that a friend of the family dropped up to us. Its a black SKY+ HD box) Model number is, (TDS-850-NB)It works fine but you need a viewing card to view the stations on it. I was thinking would it be possible to buy one off ebay from an Irish seller and use it in my box. I do have some issues I'd like addresed first if at all possible.

    1. Is it actually feasible?

    2. Does it have to be a certain card for a certain box? (my box is a black SKY+ HD)

    Thanks guys

you dont need a viewing card to watch channels on it. (the free ones)

Are you going to use it a s a second box in another room or as a replacement for an existing box.

if you want the Irish channels on it you will need to subscribe to sky .

if you already have a sky sub and a non + box you can swap it out with the hd box, pop the existing card into it and ring sky to pair the card.

You have a Sky+HD box but no Sky subscription - right?

Well with a Sky+HD box you will get certain FTA (Free To Air) channels but if you don't have an active Sky sub, on a HD box you'll only get the Irish EPG (menu) which means some of the better UK free channels like ITV, etc are only accessible via 'Other Channels'. But if you don't have the right type of card you might not get those channels.

What you could do is get a FTV (Free To View) card and this will give a UK EPG which means you'll get more channels and they are accessible thru the EPG, rather than having to use 'Other Channels'.

Check out adverts.ie for this type of card.
