    Hi All,

I have the engine light on in my car along with the traction control off light... this is because the MAF sensor has died and needs replacing... mechanically nothing is wrong with the car, anyone know is it okay to put the car forward for the NCT without wasting my time and their time.

    Thanks,

    It won't pass. Simple as.

    It won't pass. Simple as.

Why when nothing is wrong in the categories the NCT tests.

To be more prescise could you elaborate on why it will fail. Saying simple as helps me not, are you a tester at an NCT centre?

It will be an automatic fail if any lights on the dash are on and don't go out. Or ones that are meant to come on and then go out don't work either. It came in last year....think it was 1st June.

There is a section which says something about warning lights and working correctly. I presume this falls under that category, same as airbag lights etc. think it only allows for a service light.

The NCT cannot fail a car just because the engine/MIL light is on.

Obviously the fault which is causing the light to come on may cause the car to fail the NCT(emissions etc). This is likely in your case if your sure the MAF is at fault.

Only safety system warning light are a fail(ABS, Airbag etc)

Thats kinda what I thought, the engine light is on and the traction control light is on, neither of these are safety equip surely.

It doesn't mention engine management/cat/exhaust lights.

This is not true, I've passed the nct a number of times with different cars with the "engine management" light on. One of the times was since 1st June too.

Same here. Have passed the nct twice with the engine management light on.

The traction control light might be a problem though :( I have just ordered a part which should sort the issue I think.

i also passed the NCT with the engine management light on. wasn't allowed to do my driving test with it on though, which doesn't really make sense.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Nissan Doctor is right. The car does not fail the test because of the check engine light in the dash

Happened to me last week. Went to the NCT, waited (with engine off) a few minutes until the marshall showed up to let me in. Started engine and light came on

Car passed test. I asked the tester about the light and he said it's not a fail. Went home and it turned out to be some sort of ignition switch issue. I cleared the fault, the light went out and hasn't come back on. Was probably just some sort of electrical glitch / short or something minor...

But like I said, you will likely fail on emission if the MAF is gone as the car will be over fuelling.

The traction control is a safety system so will likely fail, this also has nothing to do with the MAF having failed.

What type of car is it?

My apologies! Didn't know that, thought it was any light on. Learn something new everyday!

Engine light is not a fail

Traction control light is a fail as it is a safety system.

@Nissan Doctor some cars will turn on the traction control light where an engine fault that affects power delivery is present. In this case the fault code logged in the ABS controller will direct the user to check the engine ECU for faults.

Yes the traction light is linked with the problem,

I had a skoda octavia VRS, i have ordered one of the 2 parts which might be at fault (engine coolant sensor) will see what happens after I fit this, then reset the ECU, if not that then ill order the MAF.
