I currently work a 3 day week, and was on JSB since June 2010. I was called a couple of months ago to say my JSB was due to expire in a few weeks from then, and to come in and fill out a fresh claim. Did that, and thought all was fine and continued to receive payments until this week. Last week I received forms in the post for JSA, but at the time I didn't even know what they were for as there no note of what they were etc. I rang the office and they explained my JSB was finished now, but to fill out the JSA forms, drop them back within 7 days and in meantime keep sending in the yellow slips with my x and o's of days worked etc. That was fine, I did all that, but didn't realise that eventhough I am still dropping in those work slips, my payment was stopped! I nearly died when I realised and rang them to find out as no one explained it to me last week.
She told me the JSA was going to be assessed, but until then I get no more payments and if its successful then they will pay me for those slips dropped in.
I was in tears on the phone as I really don't understand this. Im lucky I've no kids, but I do have debts, and I am now down money every week that I can't afford to be. My husband is working full time, but on a lot less money and we are struggling now.

I was told I could go into the community welfare office and see what they can do for me, but I really don't know if there's much point.
Can anyone tell me how that works? If they see a combined wage of about €700 coming in a week will they laugh at me and say not a hope of anything else. I am even worried that I'll be refused JSA as I'm working 3 days and my husband is working full time.
I'm really stressed, upset and feel sick with this now. I am not in as a bad a position as a lot of people, but I am afraid it may not be long until then :(

If your household income is €700 a week I don't think u will be entitled to any JA. Ours between wages and FIS was around 500 and Oh was only entitled to €58.

I can say there is no point going to the community welfare officer as we were told there is no payment if you are getting more than €300 a week already, for a couple. Its higher for family s with kids obviously.

To be honest it doesn't look like you will be given a payment, but get all your details into them asap.

I have all the forms sent in, was told it could be anything up to 6 weeks before I get a response! I really don't know what I'm going to do in meantime. I rely on that extra €94 a week, not even having it this week is making things really difficult. I was going to go into the community welfare office today, but just can't face it in case I'm told I'll get nothing. I really have a bad feeling that I'll be refused this JSA and I am going to have to take on an extra job....which will be pretty impossible in my town!

I'm so annoyed that they just stopped the payment without any notice or anything. I didn't expect it, and its really stressed me out :(

I remember when this happened to my oh, we got the letter saying jsb would stop, 3 weeks after it stopped.

I think we are going to look at going interest only for a while. My sister did this a few months ago and it really helps her. We had talked about doing it but though we would wait and see how things were, but now that its got a bit worse, we may just have to fill out that form and see how we go.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Sorry if I offended anyone that is struggling more than we are on less money, it wasn't my intention.

I went to collect my JSB this week only to be told there was no payment there. Went to the SW office and asked what was happening, my JSB was finished and had to claim JSA, when I asked did they not notify people instead of just cutting it off I was told I/we are suppose to "gauge" when JSB is finished. I went to CWO and got some money, Id advise you to try even if you dont think youll get anything, better to know sooner than later

If you pop into the local Citizens Information office they will be able to give you a good indication of whether or not there is any point going to Community Welfare Officer, you might find it easier to ask them than to go straight to CWO.

I had my interview with the social welfare office on Monday. She more or less said I won't get anything! I said to her that losing €94 in JSB a week may not sound like a lot, but its having a severe affect on our finances.
Looks like I'll have to try & get a 2nd part time job. Heard of a couple, but I'm sure half the population have applied too!
Thanks for all the support & info.

just to update, I got a letter yesterday 22nd May, and have been refused JSA! I was expecting them to refuse me so no great shock, but have to figure out what to do now with being down money every week. Thanks again for advice.
