got a leaflet in the door yesterday offering me free sky hd for 2 months but the interesting thing is that the leaflet clearly shows ITV1 HD as been available and dosent mention that its not on the epg.
is this purely a clever marketing trick by sky or is it actually available on the irish epg now? it shows the logo for itv1hd, along with bbc1 hd sky sports hd and the other hd channels but leaves out itv2, 3 and 4 hd.

Over 90% of what PayTV customers watch is available without subscription. They won't tell you that.
Nor that watching such UK channels is easier on a "Freesat HD" box. You own the Sky Box, but a years subscription would easily buy a box, so it's hardly "free".

Show me a box that does the job of a Sky HD one with an equally good EPG and user interaction and I'll ditch sky tomorrow!

If the day comes where a company sets up a FTA service where you can also order sports on a month to month basis I would ditch sky until then im afraid I am stuck with them

FTA imho is only good for people who just want the basic TV service like BBC, ITV, RTE etc but for sports fans and fans of programmes like game of thrones etc will stick with Sky

ITV1HD can be tuned in via the "Other Channels". I watched Madrid v Munich o it last night.

i knew that alright but the question i was asking was it now on the EPG as they are advertising it as part the attached promo leaflet whereas before this they did not. I guess its just sky playing with words with their use of the itv1hd logo and leaving to the small print the fact that its not actually on the irish epg and you need to manual tune it in.

I recently signed up to Sky for F1 coverage. I had looked on-line and checked reviews, leaflets etc. They all clearly state what channels do not require a subscription. They also clearly state that UTV/ITV are not provided by Sky and are not on the EGP, at least for Irish customers with an address in ROI.

The Clue is in the name. FTA = Free To Air. If Pay TV didn't exist then Premireship would not be destroyed by obscene amounts of money. Pay TV channels on a FTA service is an oxymoron.

Sky massively overcharges and adds insult to injury by offering no "a la Carte" ordering and having adverts for a TV channel you are already paying over the odds for.

If a "FTA" service offered Pay TV it wouldn't be a FTA service.

If Pay TV didn't exist the FTA channels would have the content. With PayTV you are paying x2 to x6 times a TV licence for less than 10% of your viewing, and if you don't want Sky Sports then it's 8% of viewing!

ITV being made available on Sky EPG (although some of us have it already thanks to a post not a million miles away from here) would make sense as it ties in nicely with them pushing for new customers as the switch to digital gets nearer.
People switching from analogue are used to having UTV/ITV so would be surely disappointed to discover Sky can't give them what they would see as the 'basic' channels.

I'd still hold my breath though....

Sky are getting desperate with them advertising ITV1 in Ireland even tho it aint on the EPG, also I just got a 6 month half price offer from them in the post, these things used to be 3 months, now they are 6.

Sky will only become good value here in Ireland if they add all the bbc, itv, channel 4 and channel 5 stations both in sd and hd to our box's and reduce our subscription in line with UK pricing, but unfortunately this is never going to happen.
