X Type Jaguar - Why so cheap?

    Hello All

I've been looking around for a nice diesel estate in the €6K range and happened across the X Type Jaguars on ebay.

The link below is for a random example.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-07-JAGUAR-X-TYPE-SPORT-DIESEL-ESTATE-GREY-FULL-BLACK-LEATHER-/260996959366?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cc4a18c86#ht_1839wt_1396

I'll say at the outset that I know very little about cars and to be honest I'm not all that interested in cars but these X Type Jaguars appear to be excellent value for money. They are stylish, well kitted out, a prestige make, economic (claimed) etc etc and it appears that you can pick one up for reasonable money.

I assume that there is a downside - can someone please tell me what it is that the ad's don't say? Perhaps I'm just being paranoid and should rush out and buy one?

All objective advice will be very welcome.

    Thanks!

No real downside. They're not overly big is all I can think of.

    They are reliable too.

Based on a mondeo ,so no bad thing either, although this can affect snob value, hence the lower prices

Generally they don't say it's an Audi or BMW.

It's all down to looks and perception.

They are a fine car which borrowed heavily from the Mondeo, that was a major issue to most buyers however along with the retro styling.

Nothing really wrong with them only their retro image

I think they are looked down upon in the UK as a Mondeo in a pretty frock. I'd say that's not a bad thing. They are small though, and the chassis design is quite old now ( think year 99/00 ish ). The uncertainty over Jaguars future at one point hit all 2nd hand values and the heavy discounting of run out new X-Types despite Ford almost killing them off before selling the brand has hit used sales too I imagine.
Nice to drive though ( thanks to the Mondeo underpinnings )
