    Hi All,

My Finace and I are getting married in November this year and we are on a budget of 3k for our honeymoon. We want to go somewhere where there is reasonably good weather and also that we are not likely to go again. We are not exactly experienced travellers but we have narrowed it down to Egypt or Mexico.

We're looking for a couples/family orientated place that is lively but not crazy and that there is plenty to do such as day trips etc. I would also like to be able to book tours when i get over there that we are taken care of by th tour people and dont have to worry about hagglers or pressure from others....maybe im asking the impossible...it just makes me uncomfortable.

We would also like to have a bit of luxury in our hotel if anyone has any experience or knows anything of the below hotels that we are looking at i would greatly appreciate any opinions.

Egypt - Baron Resort -Sham El Sheikh
    Mexico- Dreams Rivera Cancun

    Thanks in advance :)

I've been to neither but, personally, I would go to Mexico. I was reading about this underwater museum they have in Cancun the other day, looks amazing.

There would be a reasonable amount of day trips from Cancun, too.

If you have your heart set on Egypt, get on to some Egyptians (there are some good Lonely Planet forums that are region-specific) and ask them what the situation is like there at the moment. I know lots of Boardsies have been to and enjoyed Sharm Al-Sheikh but it's worth taking into consideration.

Thanks so much FouxDaFaFa and Bamboozle,

I think we are leaning more towards Mexico, that underwater muesum seems weird and amazing! and im going to start researching isla majures straight away as that sounds very nice too :) thanks for the advice.

I guess there are always going to be different opinions on a place i was just trying to feel out about mexico more so now i was talking to someone who's been and said that if im looking for a lovely romantic 'pretty' place to go then im going to the wrong place because they thought cancun was 'not pretty or romantic' and alot of the mexican people they met were 'rough',

It is my honeymoon so i am looking for an element of romance and pretty, so that description is a bit worrying but i know when she went it was not in a resort an was in a very cheap hotel etc so hopefully, im thinking of staying in thr dreams rivera hotel so hopefully i wont have the same experience!!!

Cancun is a built up party town on a beach, Isla Majures off the coast is a stunningly romantic island where a lot of americans go on honeymoon. Great beachs & diving.
Further down the coast from Cancun there's the Yucutan peninsula, lots of nice spots along here.

if it was me i wouldnt spend more than a day or two in Cancun.

My sister was in cancun last year and loved it. I have been to Sharm myself and it is in no way a place I would pick for a honeymoon. I would definitely go with Mexico :)

I would not go there(Egypt) for a while due to secuirty reasons.

Everything there has changed utterly since Tahir square

    Reviews from pre-revolt are obsolete.

There is a growing security threat in the sinai which could target sharm

Police at Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula have been attacked about 50 times by Palestinian armed groups and a local branch of al-Qaeda since the Jan. 25 uprising that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak, an Egyptian daily reported citing a security source.

Certain areas, such as Sheikh Zuwayed, central Sinai and Rafah were now outside the control of security forces, Egypt’s al-Masry al-Youm quoted the source as saying.

The attacks, which were mainly focused on the mountains of central Sinai, were carried out by the Palestinian armed groups Jaljalat, Army of Islam, Ezz Eddin al-Qassam Brigades and al-Qaeda in the Sinai Peninsula, the source said.

Ive been to Sharm El Sheik twice! Its absolutely amazing! Very tourist friendly, and plenty to do! We went quad biking in the desert, did a swimming adventure tour which was fantastic and plenty more! It is such a beautiful place Id highly recommend it!!
