why would you want advice from someone on the internet in the first place? anyone on here can claim to be something they're not. I.E. you can come in here and say that you've been depressed all day and I can tell you if you go drink cow's urine it'll ease your suffering, because I'm a doctor* and I've told people to do this before and it worked.

The other reason is litigation. No one wants to be hearing from lawyers because they were given advice about drinking cow's urine to solve their problems.

*I'm not a doctor, don't drink cow's pee, it probably doesnt taste very good

It is not safe for random people on the internet to be giving out medical advice. You don't know whether they are qualified professionals, or not. It is not safe for you, and can create a whole host of problems for boards.ie.

If you need medical advice, go to your GP. That's what they're there for-to help you.

I've got.a lot of.good advice.off.people.on boards in the past. And.my condition is external.and not serious. It's a pain but not going to damage.my health. I don't know why the mods are always so hostile and so strict about rules. I wanted to hear other peoples life experiences and tips of how they got rid.of.the problem. Ie. Procedures that help. Not medication.

Since it would appear that none of the current mods have seen this thread yet, and since I used to be a mod here, I'll try to answer your question, if I may.

    1. Boards.ie is not a democracy where users enjoy the right to free speech. It is a private enterprise owned and run by a company. Users are invited to use the service, subject to the rules, which you agreed to when you signed up.

    2. Legally speaking, comments placed on Boards.ie are 'published' in exactly the same way as an article in a newspaper is 'published'. If something is said here that is legally actionable, both the person who wrote it and the publishers (ie the guys who own Boards.ie) are liable to be sued, in exactly the same way a a journalist and a newspaper owner might both be sued for something that appeared in the newspaper.

    3. As other answerers have pointed out, it is a really really bad idea to take advice from random people on the internet. The might tell you to do something really really stupid, and if you do it, you may harm yourself. If that happens, who are you going to sue? The guy that gave you the ****e advice? Good luck finding out who they are! So you'll sue Boards.ie for publishing the advice. Boards.ie do not want that to happen. So, therefore, for the protection of your health, and for the protection of the owners from being sued, giving medical advice (and for that matter, other professional advice such as legal, accounting etc) is forbidden on the entire Boards.ie website. As a corollary to that, asking for such advice is likewise forbidden.

    4. There's a 'sticky' thread at the top of the Health Sciences page that says - in capital letters - "NO MEDICAL ADVICE IS GIVEN ON THIS FORUM". You cannot say you weren't warned. There is also a Forum Charter. Every Forum on Boards.ie has one. It explains the rules for that particular forum. Then there are also site-wide rules. Everybody on Boards.ie is expected to be familiar with and abide by these rules. Again, you agreed to this when you signed up. The rule in 'Health Sciences' is NO MEDICAL ADVICE IS GIVEN ON THIS FORUM.

    5. When your thread was locked, you started another thread to ask why. The forum moderator asked you not to, and locked that thread. But yet here we are. I suspect this thread will be locked about 2 nanoseconds after the mods see it. The rule across Boards.ie is that you are not supposed to question a moderators decision in the forum/thread. If you have a problem with a moderator's decision, contact them via PM (private message)

I hope your condition clears up soon, but please, seek advice from you doctor or pharmacist, not from random assholes on the internet.

Now, I'm going to stop now, because I'm bordering on breaking a rule here myself, namely we're not supposed to engage in 'back-seat modding'

the no-medical-advice rule is one of the clearest, oldest and strictest rule on boards.ie for a very good reason.

it's simply not safe for you or anyone else to take medical advice from a randomer who may or may not be as qualified as they say they are and, even if they are doctors, they have not examined you, do not know your medical history etc etc

it constantly baffles me that people think taking medical advice from anonymous posters is a good idea.

this rule is made crystal clear in the forum charter and the sticky. the rule will not be changing and is not up for discussion. I don't care if you liken me to a fascist, a Nazi or anything else.

I'm closing this thread and if you open another thread on this issue, or your health, you will be banned.
