Wedding Flowers can be expensive. Do you know some one who does flower arranging or likes working in the garden as a few family members I know got family members like this to do the wedding flowers for them. You can go the flower market in Dublin early in the morning to the get the flowers.

We just booked our flowers today. Paying 605. Had another quote for around same price. The lady we booked could do it cheaper if we used different flowers.
That price is for 4 bouquets (using roses) 6 button holes. Pew ends. a table arrangement with candles for a our civl ceremony and 2 pedestal arrangements and 3 smaller arrangements to use in the room where we're having the meal. i know someone that got a relative to do their flowers buying the flowers at the market in dublin and they spent 400 euro approx on just the flowers...

Flowers were the one thing that shocked me on price. I have quite a big bridal party so was getting quotes of near €1000 from some places. I just couldn't justify paying it. I eventually got them for less than €400 after a lot of shopping around. She gets great reviews on forums/facebook etc but other than that I just went on her price so won't be able to (hopefully) recommend til after wedding. She is based in Co Meath so if that is an option let me know and I will get the name for you.

I would be very surprised if you got like for like in your flowers from €1000. dropping to €400. the profit just isn't that high. I had a florist and yes you do make money on Weddings but the shop should always buy in the highest quality flowers which will cost double what the lower priced one will.

It is very much you get what you pay for if you want expensive Lillys or Roses etc or you want Chrysanthemums or Carnations. Yes you could go to one of the cheap supermarkets and buy flowers there and get a friend who has done a class to make them. But remember its your day and they only get one chance to do them right. I have seen many a Father or Mother in my shop on the morning of a wedding after the flowers from a friend didn't work out in a panic.

If you keep things simple it wont cost a bomb Brides €80 ish Bridesmaid if your clever €40ish and button holes €8 . As for church each pedestal can range from €40 ish

Have all the quotes kept and for what I want in roses I have from €390 up to €960. I used a website services finder so had no connection to any of the florists.

When you order a red rose lets say from Holland there are at least 3 grades for the same rose prices could range from 20cent to €1.50 for the same brand rose the difference will be quality, head size, and hight or rose.

I'm getting married in 3 weeks time. Last week, I went into a local (Mullingar) florist and got the following for €300.

    1 Bridal Bouquet
    3 Bridesmaids Bouquets
    7 buttonholes
    Altar / Candle display
    Complimentary Lollipop Trees for Church
    Complimentary ribbon on Pew Ends

Flowers are Burnt Orange Calla Lillies and Roses

I got shocking quotes from 'bridal' florists. I eventually went into a small local place I had used before and told them what I wanted. I got my bouquet and the BM bouquet for 40 quid each, bay trees for hire for 30 quid and a floral arrangement for the ceremony (which lasted in my parents house afterwards for a couple of weeks!) for another 80 quid. She used peonies and some seasonal flowers. I'd recommend trying local and shopping around, tell them what your budget is and they can work around it, that's what I did anyway!

Hi, wedding flowers can vary a lot due to the type of flowers used. People are led to believe that roses are expensive but these can be one of the cheapest options to go for. And as they come in a variety of colours you can adapt them to the theme of your big day.

If you find someone who has enough experience and can show you examples of there work and you can trust to take your big day in there hands is also something to consider.

Any advise needed please contact me. Doesn't mean I'm touting for work I just can offer some insite in to flower shop prices and also working from home prices.

Anyone had sunflowers for their wedding? They on the high-end or low-end price wise?

Sunflowers are not very expensive but they are very big for wedding flowers an alternative is Gerbera can get in loads of colours (yellow) with black centres if wanted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭wexford12

Sunflowers do and look very well in a vase but but but they get damaged with the slightest bump so all tho they look well they arnt great in a bouquet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,363 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Unfortunately, there's no way of dissuading Ms Sleepy from Sunflowers. They're her favourite flower and defining the colour theme of the wedding. I'd say we'll probably use sunflowers for the centrepieces and get some gerberas for the button holes etc.

You can get mini sunflowers aswell but I'm just not crazy on them. If one petal is lost you loose the whole look of them. Your florist should be able to order them with there suppliers.

I always find it funny when I see people talking about roses in there bouquet. If you went for a meal would you just look for beef when ordering your meal or would you be more specific and state the type of cut you want. Roses vary hugely in cost. The difference in the cheapest to the most expensive can be 600%+ It is the exact same with lilies.

Get a price for Bouquets made with the following roses.
    Rose Grand Aqua Girl
    Rose Grand All 4 Love
Now you will see how price can vary :-)

When comparing prices you must compare like for like.
My GF is in Floristry business and I see the buying prices. It is scary the seasonal price difference. She buys direct from Holland.

The most important thing is just set a budget and see what your offered. Let the florist know your budget, no point in wasting your time and florist's time.

GF had the same thing recently, night before the wedding. Never found out if it was home-made gone wrong. I thought it might have been a home florist who couldn't source the flowers at cost they quoted. Mid March saw huge wholesale price jump in cut flowers with international womens day and mothers day both very close. Supply and demand.

Must tell GF to increase her prices on buttonholes :-)

Gerberas might be bit on large side for buttonholes :-) Try Germini.

Depending on wedding date you should have good choice of sunflowers. In summer there are normally 6 varieties of both small and large headed sunflowers available. Mainly shade difference.

Unfortunately, it's a February wedding so I'm guessing I'll either be paying through the nose for greenhouse grown flowers or limited by what's available!

I had sunflowers for my wedding bouquet and bridesmaids: they looked fab in the photos and I had none of the problems people are talking about! And they really look gorgeous in the wedding photos: we had regular calla lillies for the button holes. SUnflowers just are too big for that!

Price wise for my bouquet, 3 bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid, 10 button holes, 2 alter arrangements, 24 pew ends bay trees outside the church and 4 gift bouquets was €600 . I was really happy with what I paid: the flowers looked great and the florist was lovely. I really wasn't one of these people who think flowers are a waste either: I always notice them at weddings!

*Also had the candle arrangment, a sunflower throw away bouquet and a cake tier arrangment that we forgot to put on the cake :)

Any chance you could PM me a breakdown of the bill and your florists details? We won't be needing pew ends, bay trees, gift bouquets or as many buttonholes and I'm curious to see how much it's likely to cost (I think my current budget is 2/300, may need a re-think!)

it seems i can't get my head around the whole flower section for the wedding. i'm not really a flower person but i know what type i want and what colours but i'm not sure if im willing to pay through the nose for something i'm not that interested in (if you get me).

still not sure about going with either real or fake flowers. i have no real idea where to put my bouquet if i get real flowers and not sure what id do with the bouquet if they were fake either.

i'm totally up in the air about the whole thing:(

I totally understand where your coming from have had quite a few weddings like that over the years. And the way I have dealt with that for many brides is to carry a small bouquet for yourself and something like a wrist corsage for the bridesmaids. That way you have flowers and the colours but haven't spent a huge amount of money either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 weeeeeeeezy

Mollybird, what about bouquet made from jewellery. They are not cheap but something a little different that you can keep for every maybe even reuse the jewellery. Just google jewelry bouquets for example of what I'm talking about

If you want to see a sunflower wedding checkout flowerworld waterford facebook page. Theres a sunflower wedding in their albums section. might give you some ideas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,301 ✭✭✭Gatica

We got quoted 65 for brides bouquet, 45 for bridesmaid, 8 per buttonhole or corsage. Not having church wedding, so no pew ends or altar arrangement required.

Yeah Pooch I'll send them on now.

I'm getting a lot of PM requests so just wondering if I'm allowed post the details here? I've no connection to her other than she did my wedding flowers but just not sure if I'm allowed post her details.

We paid €600 for 3 bouquets, 7 button holes, altar displays, pew ends, 2 bay trees, decoration (ivy) around candles we put in the windows and decoration around our unity candles. They were all beautiful

The florist came and put on the button holes and also put ribbons on our cars.

Flowers are expensive, but you get what you pay for. The service we got was impeccable. That's exactly what you want on the day.

    Hi all
Sorry only seeing these now. I think I'll just post her details here because it's easier than sending PM's on phone. If not ok can Mods delete and I'll do PM's when I can. I found her through WOL so no personal connection with her.

It's Petite Fleurs. The ladies name is Theresa. Her Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Petite-Fleurs/110390039072966 and her email is petitefleurseire@yahoo.ie
