    Hi All,

Playing a society outing here this Saturday morning. Haven't played here before so was just wondering if you've any tips on the course.

Also, what kind of practice facilities are there (do they have a range, etc...)

    All help appreciated!

I have to say Castleknock is one of those golf courses that differs drastically depending on the tees played from. The normal society tees are yellow but the course is far too short from these tees IMO (I'm not a long hitter). It is excellent off the whites and not partricularly long. The 11th par 3 is very memorable playing around 125yards or 170yds depending on tee. A great hole from the whites but poor from the yellows.

There is an area where you can hit balls alright ,nothing longer than 7 iron i think though, also there is 2 driving nets beside the 1st tee box. Great short game area next to clubhouse and putting green also.
Greens were poleforked about 4 weeks ago and are getting pretty good again ,think fairways have been sanded recently as well.
Played it bout 10 days ago and was getting pretty good.
It is a fantastic golf course and a good test ,i only take driver on 7 or 8 holes , the 9th and 18th are great finishing holes both par 3's over water sharing a very tough green. Have Fun!!

Thanks for all the feedback. Will suggest the lads ask about playing off the whites then!

Wouldn't be looking for more than a putting green & space to hit a couple of full wedges to get loosened up so area sounds good.

Hopefully greens should be in good nick if its a month since pole-working

it's a very narrow course overall, some fairways no more than 15-20 feet wide at most.

as said the greens are sandy, and don't receive high pitch shots well, as there's a very thin layer of grass on them.

plenty of water present, all par 3's have a water hazard, the hardest being the 3rd & 7th.

the staff at reception are not the friendliest either, one guy who is there quite often can barely crack a smile at the best of times. Castleknock GC is like the moon. Nice place, no atmosphere.

    and yes i'm a member (5 day)

Admittedley I've only played it 4 or 5 times but I don't recall it being that narrow

Don't think that is correct, that would mean approx the width of 3 x 6' people end to end. It's narrow on some holes, but not that narrow

I would agree that Castleknock's fairways are narrow, compared to, say, Croke Park or a big massive field.
