Applying for two jobs in the same company

    Hi all,

I've found two different vacancies at the same company that I'm interested in but I'm worried that applying for both looks like I'm just chancing my arm or that I don't really care about either one.

My concern is that while the jobs are in different departments, there's a lot of cross-over between them; if I got offered an interview for either I would expect to meet representatives from both. How could I answer something like: "Oh we see you've applied for both jobs. Why? Which one do you really want, if either? Are you just sending out applications all over the place?"

The application deadlines for each are within a few days of one another so there wouldn't be enough time to wait to see if I was rejected before sending the second app in.

    Thanks all

    W

I've done this before, but one was a relief position and the other full time, again like you different departments but I was qualified for both. I spoke with the HR in the company and they said it was no problem for me to apply for as many jobs as I like! The lady was actually quite encouraging.

But the question at interview about which one I wanted was easier as I said I really wanted full time work but would be happy with any opportunity to work for the company so I would be willing to do relief if full time wasn't available.

There's nothing wrong with applying for several jobs. In fact, it shows you are eager and motivated to work. Just think of the amount of people who are NOT in the same position as you. An employer will certainly not judge you for applying for several different positions.

With regards to applying for two different positions within the same company, there's no problem there as well; most companies advertise internal job postings so are getting applications from people within the company all the time. There's nothing wrong with you applying for either, or both, considering you're not within the company at all.

    Good luck.

That's very clever - I'm kind of embarrassed that I didn't think of that myself :o Thanks!

Yes, I suppose there's nothing to preventing me from just asking.

    Thanks Sambuka :)

Yea, you're right. It's not like they're two girls I'm asking out on dates.

    Cheers :)
