New hot water tank

ok just had new hot water tank in tank delivered by plumber, looks a bit like a submarine with pipes coming out of it.
I have a few concerns, it comes with a big foam mattress, covered in plastic, and it has a few scratches on it and some rust.
The plumber assures me that this tank is sound and the rust is nothing to worry about, he also says the big foam mattress with a bit of added foil blanket insulation will be just as efficent as the ones that have the foam preinstalled.
I feel like I'm getting ripped off here? Even if it is as efficent and has everything it needs, I still would like one that looks new, am I being silly?
    Opinions please?

Yes by the sound of it you are being silly but can you post a picture or two.

Well we asked him to order the newest one, he said he would sort it no problem without even a fight, which makes me even more suspicious, like he was waiting for us to say something. I'm a bit disappointed in him to be honest to even try and put that in, he was recommended very highly by a few people as being very up with modern practices and a great future proofer.

It would make sense to me that the tank with preinstalled insulation are far more efficient than a tank with insulation tied around it, less gaps, no chance of it slipping (had this issue before with lagging jackets in my mums house, pain in the rear) and I have to assume that the preinstalled insulation is of a better quality than a foam mattress, as for aesthetics in the hot press the difference will be huge.

This is the first trade I am concerned about, seems like they don't care about their work, they are so messy in the house and attention to detail I think is seriously lacking.
They damaged our good front door taking in lifting gear when there is 2 perfectly fine double patio doors at the rear of the house, which they will be using from now on..!!

Your conclusions are untrue at the start. Some times if space is tight the plumber will use an uninsulated tank and a jacket. Insulation can take 1-2" each side of the tank away. That could amount to 4" depending on the fit.

As for the lagging jacket slipping. Yes it can. But thats not why its used as i said above.

Reading the rest of the text i am guessing you are just peed with the general attitude rather than the tank issue which is why i always look for at least 3 job references.

    Which ones?

I don't dispute space taken up by insulation but whats neater, a tank with insulation molded to it or one with a big mattress strapped to it and then a foil blanket attached to that? And he did not mention this as an excuse for the tank just said it was the one the supplier sent to him, not that it wasn't the one he ordered or that he needed to use this one as the space was tight?

I sure am, but I got verbal refrences from other customers and from people I overheard talking about him, just doesn't seem to be treating me the same as them or maybe they were not as fussy as us?

Looks brendan with due respect you are asking opinions and then coming across hostile to the answers.

Post pictures and more opinions might be given. I am out of this one for now. All the best.

Am I not entitled to question your remarks if they do not make sense to me?

I don't think I was hostile in the slightest, maybe you are being a little sensitive but you are entitled to your opinion.
