Hi all, I have been positioned by my company to europe for the next 10-11 months, i would like to bring my car. Most companies will allow a car go for 31 days, and some 93 days.

I see FBD now offer unlimited cover abroad, is there any other irish insurance companies that will?

    thank you

    😎

found clements and italsure, they cover expats. however doesn't solve the dilemma of having no ability to drive other cars whenever i return to ireland.

All insurers offer unlimited third party cover for the whole period of policy as they are required by law to do this.
When it comes to additional covers (fire/theft/comprehensive) as you said - FBD offer this. Allianz also do according to their policy document, but their staff aren't sure.

You have to consider few more things.
    1. NCT - won't it run out when you will be abroad?
    2. Depending on what country you are going to, you might not be allowed to keep your car there on Irish plates for 11 months.

If they are required they are all blatantly lying over the phone.

It's not unlimited but they are all obliged under EU law to provide the minimal level of cover applicable to that country. Generally its around 60 days but I'm not fully sure on the time scale so don't quote me on that.

What? Third party for 60 days?
Third party cover must be provided for the whole period of policy, and this is a legal requirement for all insurers.

But funny thing about Allianz, was they told me that policy wasn't limiting time abroad by any means, but if I was to stay there for longer than 3 months, they would consider me not resident in Ireland anymore, and therefore wouldn't be able to provide cover anymore.
That's pure bullsh** as it's not Allianz, neither me who is deciding where am I resident.

Over the phone? Because people who work for their call-centres have no clue in general.

Ask them for a green card certificate of insurance. Its green!

It is the only certificate of insurance foreign police will accept if you are stopped. And it lists the countries your covered in.

Every insurance company has to supply you with one of these and its free of charge.

Picture of the cert of insurance.

All police within EU must accept every insurance certificate issued within EU. Only if someone is going outside EU, then he needs a green card.

It is the certificate that is most recognised by most police forces including the Gardai here.

And the only document that was accepted when i traveled through some border crossings.

Try explaining to a German or Italian police officer that you are insured with chill.ie or 123.ie and see how far you get.

If you go out of Europe you will definitely need this.

    O/P more here.
