Insurance Claim Delemma

Tipped a BMW e46 2002 - needs a new bonnet, touch up the moulding on bumper, spray job etc.

Anyhow - since I have no claims protection, I decided to go down the claim route. Brought it to Crash Repair centre - and they have come back to me with the following.

If I go with a BMW brand new bonnet - it pushes the job into not worth repairing territory (€1400 for the job). If I accept a second-hand or spourious bonnet, it should be fine.

Car is great otherwise - 10 years old alright, 90K on the clock - but worth more to me than have a cheque for 2k (they haven't said what they would pay out).

    Any advice appreciated!
    Keith

Beware of NCB protection. Just because it's protected doesn't mean you wont have a premium loaded come renewal.

    ie: Normal Quote 2000 - 50% NCB = 1000
    Renewal - 4000 - 50% NCB - 2000

With respect to settlement, if you really want to claim then you could look at accepting a settlement on the vehicle for the 2k and then buying the vehicle back off them for their salvage rate. Find out what they want for you to keep the vehicle. If it's less than 600 then you've just got your new bonnet. :)

Ah yeah - no guarantee of a non-hiked premium. But for €1400 job - it worth claiming in this case.

To buy it back - you need an engineers report to get it back on the road - that's €300 alone as far as I know.
