    Hey Folks

    I just bought

    http://www.pixmania-pro.ie/ie/uk/06853038/art/memup/mediadisk-lnx-hd-media-player-hard-drive-1-tb.html

and i am trying to set up a home network connecting the above hard drive to my UPC wireless modem.

I basically want to be able to copy / download files directly from my laptop to the media hard drive and then play them from the hard drive on my TV

I am using an apple mac OS 10.6.8

    Your help is much appreciated

    Thanks

    Scott

you haven't said how far you've got or the problems you are having, so i'll assume you've got the mediadisk plugged into your router via an ethernet cable and plugged into your tv via hdmi.

the version of the mediadisk you have only seems to support samba shares, so you'll want to read up on how to connect to samba (i.e. windows) shares on your mac here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1568

once you have everything plugged in, your mediadisk will get an IP address from your router, which should allow you to connect to it from your mac using the above instructions for connecting to samba shares.

you'll want to know what the ip address of your mediadisk is, so you can check that via the mediadisk gui on your tv.

once you know what it is, you can use it to connect to it from your mac and copy stuff over to it, but bear in mind that if the mac is wireless, it will be fairly slow, so use either ethernet cable from the mac to your router or usb directly to the mediadisk if copying a lot of stuff over.

okay, let us know how that goes and we'll take it from there.

also, don't be afraid to say so if anything doesn't make sense or if we're being far too basic, we have everyone here from old IT pro's to complete novices and the only thing certain is that every one of us started at the beginning knowing nothing and learnt by asking questions and picking it up as we went along. :)
