Today's "GrabOne" Deal

    Morning all.

Today's deal is a basic service through Advance, including oil and filter change. In the T's & C's, they state that 10W-40 will be used, and there'll be a surcharge for different oils.
Both our cars need an oil change, so I was thinking of going with this offer. However, the recommended oils for one of our cars is 5W-30. I'm a bit thick when it comes to oils, so I'm wondering if the 10W-40 will suit or will it make John Terry of the engine?

Your car needs 5w30. You won't see any damage now, but long term you will.

What kind of car is it?

5w30 is thinner and more for newer engines, putting 10w40 is more likely to cause engine wear and wouldn't be recommended.

Considering you can't buy decent oil and a decent filter for €39, I am deeply suspicious of these kind of deals. I know the premise is people will go back to advance to get abused on the second occasion, but I am skeptical.

Unless you have a 1990's car 10w40 will probably be too heavy. That said given the taget market for grabone ins't exactly petrol heads anyway, any oil change is better than a change every 40k miles.

Anyone know of the surcharges for different oil type in particular 5w 30. They seem similar prices to buy from micksgarage.ie I've emailed grabone.ie but imagine they'll redirect me to advance and offer closes before they reopen after weekend
