As the title suggests , has anyone any experience of using a 35mm holga, just ordered one and wondering whats the best type of film to get ?

I was looking at the kodak portra 400 - should i go for at least a 400 iso or would a lower iso suffice ?

Should mention id like the colors to be as punchy as possible

I will more than likely be using the camera outside but would like a general all rounder film .

Also any suggestions for the cheapest place online or otherwise to get film ,

5 rolls of the kodak portra works out at approx €30 from 7day shop - is it possible to get it cheaper or is this about right ?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

For Ireland, go for Kodak portra 800. This is from experience. The holga shoots at f11 and 1/125th of a second so it would have to be fairly bright for 400 to give good results.

Just looking at 7dayshop there, their fuji superia 800 is cheaper than the portra 800 as well. And their 400 is way cheaper, £14.99 for a 5 pack of superia. I'd personally go with portra all the way, but if you want snappier colours the fuji might be better.

DQ is right. Go for the Holga go for the cheaper film. I just love the portra 800 so much!!!!

I have only used the 120 Holga for B&W but found 400 ISO film to be too slow. If the 35mm version works similarly to the 120 then I'd suggest you go with 800 ISO film also.

Then again, maybe I just got a bad calibrated Holga :D
