Folks I'm on the lookout for a new car. I have maybe 4500 cash maybe a little more for the right car but something for about 4k or less would be ideal.

Now for the tricky bit:D It has to be diesel, reasonably reliable, 2.0 or under but maybe 2.2 max again for the right car. Min of 115bhp but would perfer 130+, also perfer a 6 speed manual with some nice toys! cruise control, factory alloys, all electrics etc.. oh and 2003+

So i was thinking of a mondeo with a nice spec. ghia maybe or ghia x.

Is there anything else I should be looking at???

Im not really interested in any vag brand cars, My last 3 have been vags so I would like a change..

if i was going for mondeo i wouldnt bother with the 2.2 (nice finish but not enough extra poke for price and tax) also would go for 5 speed as it has better ratios and less trouble

cheers colm. never thought about a volvo but that just dose not do it for me. looks very big and ignorant.

Im coming from a 6speed so a 5 speed could give me trouble when i keep looking for 6th :D also are the 130bhp mondeos only a 6 speed?

I agree with you about the 2.2 mondeos do

Go and drive a few cars Sean and see which you prefer. I have driven all the models mentioned in this thread and if I had to choose one with my money and I was feeling sensible I would buy a Mondeo, if I wasn't feeling sensible I would buy an S60.

I need to be sensible.. other wise I would have kept the leon and went down the hybrid turbo route!:D just want something reasonably nice and comfy but something I wont be tempted to spend money on!! Anything nice in stock down there??

so went to look at this today. seems to be a nice car. well looked after with all the major/costly bits replaced, turbo clutch and DMF and 4 new injectors. loads of toys too which is nice:D

looked at another one in portlaoise
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3181357

less toys, hatchback, silver, hassel of getting it vrt'ed tested taxed etc put me off.

Chrome strip and alloys can easily be fixed and there should be bargaining in the price.

Can easily be tuned however it's a 5 speed box only

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 409 ✭✭john reilly

if you go for the mondeo be aware that hatchback has tendency to let water into the boot and saloon looks better

I know exactly how they are viewed, I just like off beat cars.

I'm trying to think of something that hasn't already been mentioned
