I installed maxthon on my laptop today, after a friend recommended it to me. Up until now I've been using firefox. I can't seem to get used to maxthon and was going to switch back, but my friend reckons it's the most secure browser. Anyone else have an opinion on maxthon? Is it worth persevering with it? I miss my firefox!

Whiplash your friend and install Firefox if you're not comfy with Maxthon. ;)

Is Maxthon just an IE shell? I assumed it was, in which case it's only as secure as IE is.

Used to be... Now you have the choice between the Trident (IE) and Webkit (Apple Safari and its Chrome dervatives) rendering engine.

I think Maxthon is the number 1 browser in China, the inventor is Chinese.

Edit, it seems it's actually 3/4th after IE.

All people have different opinions of browsers, would love to know how Maxthon is considered more secure than Chrome/FF or even IE9 (actually an alrite browser), I will admit I havn't used Maxthon in years, but I think the development team is quite small, having said that there may be less targeted attacks due to its low use count.
I wouldn't put much trust in a "secure" browser though, it will likely be a plugin ala recent multiple OS Java attack that will be the main target anyways :pac: , common sense and being aware when surfing are the best ways to stay virus/malware free online

I myself think Maxthon is a piece of over bloated ugly garbage COMPARED TO WHAT I HAVE!!!

I have the last version BEFORE IT WAS RENAMED TO MAXTHON and its excellent! (MyIE2 - 9.27.68)

In my opinion this browser WENT STRAIGHT DOWNHILL after MyIE2 9.27.68 (Almost all good things i love in MyIE2 are gone) -- I havent ever found anything close to it!!

    Take a look @ it here: www.oldware.org/download.php?download=1098
