I had one Dave and it put me off marlin rifles to the extent I wouldn't ever consider another. I spent a lot of money on it including rifle basix trigger, to try and get the rifle the way I wanted. The cz I replaced it with out of the box is a decent rifle

i have a cz17hmr but it was bad from the word go my f.a.d is suggesting a marlin the cz was a head wrecker throwing shots for no reason so it looks like mister marlin is on the cards who knows i might be lucky this time

I had that problem with an 17, could never get it to shoot good groups, I even brought it back to the dealer, but a good scrub with a copper de- fouling agent and it was shooting sweet.

I had a marlin 917vs .17hmr. it was.a tack driver great for long range bunnies. the seven round mag sticks down a good bit which can be annoying but of you swop it for a four round its fine.

had it mine back to the dealer and independent smiths nobody could get it shooting right and no-one could say why they tried everything and still no difference so today i was offered a marlin instead anything is better than what i had

i also have the marlin vs and tis a great straight shooting gun.

The magazine is a small issue with having to push it up sometimes to load the round but not that bad at all.

    Great little gun.

Have a Marlin Xt17-vr and love it.
Is a tack driver in fairness, trigger was heavy when I got it but adjusted it down to 2.5pounds pull and suits me awy better and shoot better more consistently.

As garv said magazine can be a problem, 4 shot mag is horendous. 7 shot mag just needs more attention when pushing the bolt forward otherwise no bolt will enter the chamber. Only a small issue.

This rifles advantages outweigh the negatives by far. Marlins are great value for money.

well i bought one as soon as they came out ,have it ever since, smassing rifle, shot many a rabbit 180 yards head shot its the most accurate rifle i ever had , take it everywhere, and a gun smith told me the marlin is one of the most accurate of the 17 that was made, and i have a sako 223 so im not imagine it

Did you try adjusting the guides at the rear of the magazine. I collected my marlin 982vs last week and had the same problem until i gave the guides a very slight squeeze with a vice. Worked at treat on both the 4 round and 7 round magazine. No longer have to support the magazine to chamber a round
