Clinical Supervision

I have just won a major victory [well getting anything out of the HSE is a victory at the moment], anyway, the HSE have always supplied me with 1.5 hours of individual and 1.5 hours of group supervision per month since I started with them. There was always a group of external supervisors which people where allotted to, changing supervisor about every 2 years.

As there where few psychoanalytically trained supervisors within this group, I was lucky enough to be allotted someone who trained as a group analyst, so at least she was familiar with Freud; so I stayed with her for nearly ten years. She knew of Lacan and his major concepts but was not a Lacanian herself.

Anyway as things are being constantly reviewed within the HSE, so was external supervision, there has always been a fear that certain managers want internal supervision, but thankfully that has been fended off again.

My little victory in all of this was I put in a proposal that would allow me to pick my own external clinical supervisor. I will still attend 2 hours of group supervision a month and the HSE will pay for my APPI/Psychoanalytic supervision. I have been in and out of such supervision over the years but paying for my own supervision for HSE work is not right.

So I am working out a contract with my own choice of supervisor at the moment, so I was just wondering what supervision is available for those working in other areas?

At the end of the day I was able to work with non-analytic supervisors but I clearly get much more out of sessions when I work with another Lacanian. So what way does it work for you guys?
