    Hi everyone,
I have streaks or lines in my photo's but you can only see them when there is sky or light greys in the photos.

I have added a photo to look at, i thought it was lens at first but its still there with a zoom lens, just not as bad.

Got prices from €60-100 to get it cleaned. Do i really have to send it away or is it possible to do a good cleaning job yourself.

If i need to send it, who do you recommend?

    Regards,

Have you tried popping the mirror open with the lens off? That much dirt you'd be able to see on the sensor with the naked eye. A little air puffer would get rid of most it.

yes - opened it through the menu and yes you can see the lines and dirt.

i dont have a dirt blower, can i get one handy?

    will this do the job?
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Giottos-GTAA1900-Rocket-Air-Blower/dp/B00017LSPI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

but i dont think that will take the lines off though, maybe the spots of dirt.

Can you see fibres or threads of any sort that could be causing those lines? They look very weird - especially how they seem to creep in from the edges. If there is nothing clearly visible then there is something else very wrong with your camera. Do they match perfectly on each photo? Try taking a shot with no lens and see if they are still visible. Has anything happened the body recently - a fall or left somewhere damp? Did you leave the cap/lens off for a while?

You have a 5D? That's not a cheap camera so spend the few bob and get the sensor professionally cleaned. Hard to believe a sensor could get so dirty. If you don't want to spend the money, bring it to DML, they'll do it free.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a sensor that dirty. I'd say get it cleaned properly. I've cleaned my own sensor on my 5D but it's never been that bad.

its still there with no lens. looks the same.

i got the camera of someone i know, it was his backup camera so it had not been used in awhile.

I dont mind paying to get it done, if its going to fix it the problem.
I was told to try ISS in dublin, which are the canon repairs, anyone had their camera's cleaned by them?

I will have to post it up to them or is there anyone in kerry or cork that does cleaning?

I would prefer to deal with someone in person, when its been posted you dont have much control over the dealing of the job or seeing how it is after they cleaned it.

Shame on you for allowing your sensor to become so dirty and grubby

Plus 1 on DML, they are very nice guys there. You can walk in and talk person to person.

I did not let it get like that. Only got it off a friend a month ago in return to a favour. It was his backup cam. So it not been used in a long time, Hense why i wanted to check if it was a problem with the camera or it just needs cleaning. Wanted to get it sorted before i get into using it. A few days after i got it the mirror came off and was sent to canon for the free repair only got it back yesterday. Pitty i was t able to use it long enough to see the dirt would of asked canon to clean it too. Ah well.

When in need, I went to DML and they have cleaned it for me for free. I saw what kit they were using and next time I will need my sensor, I'll buy the kit there.
And yes, the sensor looks manky, hopefully it is not scratched.

DML now charge 20 euro for a wet clean, they don't charge for dry cleaning.
I bought the sensor cleaning kit there plus the loupe and artic butterfly.

I actually think that is fungus rather than just dust/hair on the sensor (it's pretty dirty too though).
Ive seen it before and it was pretty similar to this (creeping in from the sides).
Can you tell if it is on the front or back of the low pass filter?

How do you find the arctic butterfly? I have one but have never used it as I have just wet cleaned/used a rocket blower previously.

You think it could be fungus? when i put it into sensor cleaning mode, and get a light you can see the lines in the corners.

If its funges can it still be cleaned? I just emailed DML and ISS to see what they think. Im 5hrs from dublin though thats the only problem.

Does anyone know if there is a cleaning service around kerry or cork? I rang two places in cork and they all said they just send it to canon.

Sorry for some reason it autologged into my old account.

I have a sensor swab, would it be worth giving the sensor a wipe and see if it helps? because either way i think its gonna have to be sent away.

Was talking with DML this morning, very nice to deal with, very helpful too.

I sent him photo's and asked him straight out do you think a good clean with sort it and he said yes.

So im gonna give him a try, and if not i will just send it to canon.
Sending it by courier tonight, so will let ye know how i get on.

    thanks,
