Hi folks.my daughters benefit finishes in june and her job closed down. Just wondering if she will be entitled to any sort of jsb/jsa. She started work septtember 2010 doing 20hrs pw and continued until dec 31st 2011 when the job went. She got maternity pay straight away. She is married with 3 children and her husband is self employed. Any info much appreciated.

If her only credits in 2010 are from September then she won't have an entitlement to JSB and she will need to apply for allowance. As her husband is self employed it will have the be assessed by a Social Welfare Inspector and the means from income will be taken into account on the claim. It could take 8 2 12 weeks for a decision to be made and she will not be able to apply until the day after the maternity benefit expires.

Her husband will have to supply his most up to date accounts... in this case 2010 as he does not have to file 2011 until October. It may take longer than 12 weeks depending on how quickly all info requested by sw inspector is provided and on the workload sw inspector has. SW inspectors deal with a lot more than jobseekers means assesments... they deal with opf, carers, non con oap etc etc the list is endless and the people they have to see is endless also.

Thanks so much for the information and yes they must be under lots of pressure with so many claims to handle.
