The Irish Chinese Boxing Association have the following events scheduled for this year. There will be more fight nights and maybe an extra open or two if any of our friends outside of Dublin would like to schedule them;-)

Each of the events below will take place in Leisurepoint Sports and fitness center on Cardiffsbridge Rd, Finglas, Dublin 11. We will run the Senior divisions on the Saturday and the Childrens divisions on the Sunday.
Light contact (no knockout) Qingda divisions are available for fighters new to the sport who want to gain experience.

    Sanshou Open - April 28th and 29th

    Sanshou Open - June 9th and 10th

    Sanshou Open - October 20th and 21st

NATIONAL SANSHOU CHAMPIONSHIPS - December 8th

These events are open to all styles and since there are so many either expressing interest in competing or coaches claiming to teach Sanshou we would hope that they and their fighters will step up and help grow this sport.

Considering the number of Kung Fu and Sanshou classes/clubs running Countrywide we should be able to present the best of our fighters at this years National Championships and then go on to compete with a strong squad at international events next year!

The ICBA Opens and fight nights offer qualification points for the Nationals and the following is our ranking system.

    ICBA Ranking system
Points accumulated for each competitive year will dictate the rank applied to each fighter of each division.
A top ten ranking system will be applied for each weight category.
1st – Winner of the National Championships
2nd – Runner up in the National Championships
3rd- 3rd place in the National Championships
4th – 4th place in the National Championships
5th – 10th - these ranks will be based upon points accumulated throughout a competitive year

    * If 2 fighters have the same number of points. The fighter who holds a win over the other fighter will take the highest place available.
If a ranked fighter is defeated by a lower ranked fighter they switch their positions in the top ten listing. Also if they refuse a challenge they also lose their place to the challenger.
    Awarding of points
1 point for registering for an ICBA event
1 point for every competed match
3 points for each match won
3 points for placing 4th in an open championship
4 points for placing 3rd in an open championship
5 points for placing 2nd in an open championship
6 points for placing 1st in an open championship
A minimum of 2 points must be earned to qualify for the National Sanshou Championships 2012.

Any competitors outside of the top ten for their division can enter the National Championships in a separate pool and will compete for a place amongst the seeded fighters.

If you miss out on an event you are giving your opponents the chance to get ahead of your in the ranks, there are very few Sanshou events as it stands in Ireland on an annual basis so get yourself and your fighters ready and set your sights on the dates above.

For those coaches not sending their fighters along this weekend, we cordially invite you to come along to see what the ICBA is about, one of the committee members would be delighted to speak to you about getting involved in the sport.

We look forward to working with all like minded coaches and fighters over the next few months and if you have any questions please contact us at info @ ymaa .ie.

    Take care
