UK Jag X-Type

I am looking at changing the car and this car fits the bill nicely.

I have driven a few x-types here and really like the engine and the spec on the better models. THe one I have linked to in the UK is hard to calculate the VRT on though, as it is the Sovereign version, but that version is not listed under the 2.0 diesel model, which it definitely is.

So depending on which version NCT base it on, the VRT could be from €862 for the Classic to €1360 for the SE spec. I assume there is no way to find out for definite other than to turn up with the car and hope for the best?

THis would put the all in price at between €7,900 and €8,400, including about €300 for flight and ferry and misc. items.

Now the Sovereign spec is fully loaded and the cabin looks great. Has FSH also. The price is a bit high and there's no wiggle room on it unfortunately.

There are other x-types here, same year, lower spec for cheaper (one for €7k which drives very well and one for about €5k which I haven't seen yet).

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

I have a 1999 E300TD estate (5 seater) to sell/trade. I have been offered from €500 to €1,500 on it so far as a trade in on card valued between €5k and €7k.

I am no expert but my brother had a 2003 x type petrol and had loads of problems with it. He upgraded to a 2006 2.0 ltr diesel but had even more problems. In the end he got rid of it minus a few grand on repair bills.

This was his experience, just thought I'd share.

Thanks for pointing that out to me! I missed the other cc category in the dropdown. I've done it so many times for different versions, Ii'm going cross-eyed :)

That's good to know and puts the VRT in around the middle of the range, which is ok for me. Just got to talk to the credit union now!

I'll stick up some pics if I get it.

If tax isn't an issue, you'd get an S-Type 2.7d for not much more than that. Can't help but think ~€8600 for a 7 year old 100k mile X-Type 2.0d is a bit rich.

One of the reasons to change is to reduce the tax bill. We're currently on a 3 litre and it is killing us!

Changing to a 2 litre diesel and fuel +tax savings means about €2k annual saving.

I agree though it seems a lot for this particular model and we are still looking here at home for a good one at a cheaper price. I've driven some and the quality varies as does the price.

Big enough difference in tax if you're trying to maximise money saved without driving a ****ter, true.

If you like the drive of the x-type, why not go for a Titanium X 08 new model Mondeo? Not as lovely on the inside as the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag, but as good to drive and a more modern engine+€225 road tax.

Those '08 Mondeos seem to be going for > €10k.... and I'm a snob :)

I love the plushness of the Jaaaag interior and the fact it is a bit more unusual.

Should be just about able to land one for €9,500. Was impressed by the new model Mondeo, but still a multitude of hard plastics compared to what I'm used to!
Unfortunately, there aren't many choices for plush well specced diesel saloons with small engines.

That's the condundrum! And that's where the Jag fits the bill, if you dial down the spec from Sovereign to S or SE, better value.

Guy at work had a 2005 2l diesel he got up north and ended up having to replace injectors at big money so got rid.

Took the plunge and viewed and purchased the Jag on Friday. Everything was as they said it was, all working perfectly. Very happy with it. VRT now.

BTW, there's a nice Merc in the background that's looking for a new home :)
