I hsve been dealing with travellers for about 40 years. Some OK, some not. Legal position complicated.

Some members of all ethnic/religious/population groups commit crimes and abuse the welfare system, shirk their obligations to the wider society and in general act in ways that deserve condemnation.:cool:

However, the way to deal with that is to punish those individuals who break the law, irrespective of what group they belong to and applying the same legal principles and guarantees of a fair trial to all, not to make sweeping and, frankly, quite disgusting and racist generalisations in the way that you do.:eek:

i suspect they think it would give them increased licence to engage in activitys which are seen as inappropriate by the settled community , might also entitle them to certain special priveledges in the way of entitlements , the do gooder industry would stand to gain from travellers being granted ethnic status aswell , thier is plenty of employment for lawyers , human rights activists etc in representing recognised minoritys

Maybe the OP is referring to the fact that they are allowed to behave in such an unsocial manner anywhere they go as people think to themselves whats the use in trying to stop them from vandalsing, robbing, fighting, when they neither care nor fear the law, and any action you try and do as a morally correct citizen will just bring unnecessary attention to yourself from them.

Gaining ethnic status allows them to brand anyone who criticises their lifestyle as 'racist'. Using the racist card is a classic tactic to intimidate and bully people into keeping their mouths shut.

So if you phone up Joe Duffy and ask if travellers have driving licences or insurance you'll be branded racist. If you ask why they invade seaside towns during the summer and leave tons of rubbish behind, they will reply that that's their 'way of life' and if you can't live with it then you're obviously a racist.

Genetically and racially these people are 100% Irish, they are not an ethnic minority.
