Why don't the Gardaí do a bit of good old fashioned entrapment?

For example, in an unmarked car in a petrol station or a car park have a laptop / mobile / money sitting on a dashboard, and wait for the thieves to make their move, then come down like a tonne of bricks. This will highlight the people who would do it and clear the vermin from the street.

When I was spending a week in Monte Carlo with my wife, I saw Ipods / walets possessions etc sitting in cars, and in some cases keys left in cars.
    And no one touched them.

And before anyone says entrapment is illegal, what about the female Garda who tricked the man pretending she is a prostitute.

I'd be in favour of entrapment incertain situations for example setting up those gangs in Limerick....or do I mean assasination?

I think if a man keeps offending again and again they should not be let out of jail. These people with 56 convictions i mean how the hell are they committing so many crimes.
And thats the ones they are caught for.

Don't think anyone is going to prison for nicking a phone from an unattended car so not much point is there?

That wasn't entrapment because those gardai were approached by the johns and solicited, not the other way around. The johns weren't induced to commit any offence. That's the way around it.

OP: It's not really right that we just allow Garda bashing go on with legal principles that aren't consistent, legal or logical.
