I agree - I enjoyed Warrior and it was one you can watch with the girlfriend that she will enjoy too :)

To go the obvious route - The Rocky Series. I enjoyed Ip Man also.

Seven Deadly Venoms and Executioners from Shaolin are good. I also liked The Last Dragon.

Twin Warriors, still my favorite MA film

Some of the fight scenes in the magnificent butcher are brilliant. Drunken master and ong bak are also greats.

Edit: There's a film called 7 Grandmasters, which features some of the best fight scenes knocking around. This one springs to mind:

And this is from the magnificent butcher. Such a great scene!

Ong Bak movies are great. Great scenes in Taken and some Steven Segal Movies.
I am biased as the above contain some Silat moves.
There is also a Silat movie called Merantau, or something to that effect. I have not seen it yet though.

heard there's some amazing Silat in this

Thats Awesome did not know that, fight scenes in alot of the movies today arent that good. This thread needs about 70% more bloodsport though

cant go wrong with Bruce Lee either

I like the original karate kid trilogy :o

    Mr. Miyagi was a legend.

Jackie Chan has done some great stuff, the lucky stars films, police story, a lot of traditional kung fu films. There would be too many to name.

And that is my 5,000th post:eek:

Peter Sellers on Judo in "Lolita"

Sanshiro Sugata II 's (1945) epic final scene

it's mostly a propaganda film and quite poor by Kurosawa's
standards; Sanshiro Sugata or Judo Saga (1943), the main
character is based on the early judo legend Shiro Saigo, is
    a better movie over all.

Saw "The Raid" at the JDIFF earlier in the year, brilliant action and fight scenes.
"Merantau", by the same director, has some great fights in it too even if it is a bit slow to start.

Some rascals put the the while of Twilight Samurai up on youtube, well worth watching

The Wrestler qualifies as a good martial arts film as well

Tony Jaa V Eddie Gordo (Tekken) :)
Tom Yum Gung probably the most ridiculous of all his movies...

I wasn't gone on 13 Assassins. Too many bits that just felt awkward for some reason. (Yeah, I have no future in film criticism.)

Plenty of sword fighting though, if that's what you're into.

Twilight Samurai is brilliant by the way. Though I'm not sure I'd class it as a martial arts film - there's very little actual fighting.

It's a perfect martial arts film so :pac:

Anyone see 13 Assassins?what did ye make of it?

I thought 13 Assasains was a true classic, the Village of Death Finale was epic. Well worth a watch if your into mad samurai slash fests!

    other Enjoyable off-the-wall MA movies:
    Zatoichi
    Shinobi (On You Tube)
    Bodyguards and Assasins
    Ip Man 1&2
    Red Belt (Only Joking :))
    Big Trouble in Little China
Ninja III: The Domination (seriously, the opening chase seen is worth the watch alone)

Ah, I couldn't rememeber if I'd seen 13 assassins untill you mentioned the big village finale. Yeah I remember enjoying it alright.

Another cracker is "Romantic Assassin", from Korea. Absolutely hilarious for a MA film, well worth checking out.

Would highly recommend Seppuku from 1962 (aka Harakiri). There's little action in it, but it gives a great insight into the code of Bushido and the effects of it's abuse.

Shogun Assassin is decent if you're into bloodshed movies like 13 Assassins and Ronin Gai.
Goyokin is also well worth checking out.

There are also plenty of great usual suspects such as Yojimbo, Seven Samurai, Sword of Doom, When The Last Sword Is Drawn, After The Rain, The Samurai Trilogy, The Hidden Blade, etc.

For Hong Kong movies, most Shaw Brothers movies would wet the appetite.
If you don't mind a camp storyline, The Prodigal Son has excellent fight choreography (and a brilliant acrobatic calligraphy scene with Sammo Hung).
Master Of The Flying Guillotine is bizarre, but a great watch.
Bodyguards and Assassins is an aqcuired taste, but worth a look.
