Hey, I am wondering is it possible to get insurance for under 2000 Euro?
    I am:
    18,
Provisional (doing test in end of june)
    Parked in Dublin 1. (Garage).

So what car should I go for in order to aim for as low as possible?
I know you will say I should ring etc.. but I dont need perfect, I just need rough, and information on what to do to get as cheap as possible.
    Suggest?

    :)

I hate to be the one to say it, and you know what's coming, but you'll have to ring around:D!

It's probably a good idea to have a couple of cars in mind, and get quotes on all of them. Once the broker has your details they can give you quotes on different cars handy enough.

    Hey there.
Im on the road a few months. Drive a 3 door Ford focus mk1 1.4 myself. rang around all that jazz. Tryed first ireland insurance (they rang me from a previous quote).
    Gave all my detials.
Came back at 1100 Third party fire and theft. Couldnt afford fully comp as it was like 2200.
put my mother and sister on my policy both with full licence. came €1023 :D

So to answer your question. yes it is to get under 2000 euro but you will most likely be on third party or third party fire and theft. If you can get fully comp for under 2000 then happy days.

For the car i would go with a 1.2 litre or less.
    try 1.0 polo
    Fiesta
    Clio
    206
    Corsa

Not really much point in choosing fully comp on a car worth under 3000 anyway tbh.

By the way what is that insurance type called that I need to have minimum? and what does it cover? What is the one called which pays off damage I do if I crash? but doesnt pay me off anything. (Wouldn't want to smash into some kind of lexus or ferrari) then not being able to pay off.

You are required by law to have at third party insurance. This covers damage you do to anyone else, but not your own car. Third part fire and theft, is the same but covers your car in the even of fire or theft. And then there's fully comp. A lot of insurers seem to only offer Third Party fire and theft as the minimum these days.

That's the one I might go for then, because I don't think it's worth paying any extra for car worth like below 1000 eur.

Might aswell mate no point dishing out the cash for fully comp. Especially if you have to learn a few lessons ;)

Not necessarily, you could also include a few 1.4's in their too and maybe even 1.6.

Im 19 but its the same for me to insure a 1.2 fiesta and a 1.6 focus.

What's the budget for the car alone?

Below 1000 euro. (if that's even possible to buy).

I'd avoid the 206 and the Clio. Well known electrical problems.

A pupil of mine who is 18 has just got a Punto insured with First Ireland for €1200

I think it would with most insurers. If you pass the test as well it should make a big difference to the insurance the folllowing year, and some will even give you money back on the current year.

Something to note, if you really want to save money, you'll have to shop around for the best quote/cover every year. Will the year after be cheaper, most likely yes, will it be the cheapest; maybe not!

That's why I started to think about parking before I even got car, I heard if you keep it off street it will be bit cheaper to insure?

It's definitely taken into consideration, I doubt it makes a massive difference. The biggest thing for you is the Learner Permit.

If I pay monthly, think they will ask for less after I pass driving test?

Really hard to say, it all depends on how much is left in the policy when you pass, and how the insurance company handles those situations. I paid in full the year I passed, I had about 3 months left and got barely anything back. Very hard to say really. I wouldn't pay expecting to get a lot off when you pass, it's most likely a very small sum you get back.
