Advice needed for motorised setup and saorview

    Hi All,

Im about to get my Dad setup on saorview but not sure what the best options are. The current setup is a Penta 85 motorised dish with a Twin TM LNB running into a TM 5200 Super+ receiver.

He has 2 TV's I want to put saorview on and add another receiver for FTA on the 2nd TV.

Should I go for the Triax TSC114 Combo box for the 2nd TV and add a saorview box onto the existing TV or keep all separate. Im trying to think what the advantages/disadvantages are either way?

Can the Triax Combo decode all sat signals? (hope this is not too dumb Q!)

Any recommendation on what type of boxes are out there that are value with reasonable quality?

Firstly there is a whole thread on the triax combo. To quickly answer qns:

    >Can the Triax Combo decode all sat signals? (hope this is not too dumb Q!)

Yes, but no 7 day guide on 28.2 sat just now and next.

    >Im trying to think what the advantages/disadvantages are either way?

Triac combo is ONLY Saorview certified combo but it is rediculously priced at 180 euro compared to the nearly equivalent Ferguson combo at 100. It's price will drop when more combos are approved.

If you want to record from 28.2 then a Sat only freesat + Hd box is best. All current Saorview boxes have a single tuner. No proper recording box yet.

I would go with one basic Saorview box, and one Ferguson combo. Then upgrade as better boxes are released.

    Do ferguson boxes still work?

We had one years ago that you used through upc but i thought they have cracked down on free to air channels here.

Have saorview at the minute (spoiled for choice when it comes to tv viewing :p) so I'm looking for other free options with a bit more choice.

    Any help would be great

These boxes are 100% legal. They receive unencryped satellite channels from space via a dish. They get lots of UK channels, but no pay channels like Sky sports etc.

    See here for listing:
    http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A-and-Astra-1N-2A-2B.html

A combo box allows reception of Saorview from an aerial along with reception from a dish, all on the one box, with the one remote.

    thanks for the reply.

I was confused how the box would pick up a signal.

We have a saorview tv, do you just connect it to a port in the tv or in the external aerial??

    Stupid questions I know

They better work...I just bought one :0

Used to mess around with the TM box few years ago (for educational purposes) but dont bother any more. FTA is good enough.

hopefully you'll be up and running soon. You'll have to left me know.

Do you have a saorview box or tv that you're connecting too??

You need the exact same dish Sky uses. You can get them professionally installed or buy a kit. A Saorview TV will not pick up Satellite signals. You need a seperate free to air satellite box.

Start a new thread elsewhere for general info. This thread is for owners of Ferguson boxes, not general info.

I think you are confusing satellite with tv signal.

The saorview comes from your aeriel into your tv which decodes it for you.

The satellite receiver (your ferguson box) needs a signal from a satellite dish to work.

Hope Im right here and not confusing matters more!

I have a satellite dish and an aeriel. I dont have a saorview tv so need the combination box to decode both the aeriel signal (saorview) and satellite signal (UK freeview) for the TV.

No you're right, I'm confusing them up

Is there anything you can use to get free to air channels without a sat.

We don't have sky, upc or a sat dish atm (its a new house) so i'm looking for the cheapest option available

Since you mentioned UPC, it's likely you're not in an area with UK terrestrial reception, but just to be sure, where are you?

It depends where you live...if you are on the east coast you may be able to pick up the UK free to air (FTA) channels with an aeriel...or so I have read on this site...

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-and-tv-aerial-faqs.html

Lots of good info on there.

Here you go...this is the page i was reading earlier about UK FTA...

Don't bother with terrestrial for UK channels, get a satellite system & someone to install it properly.

I think she was looking for a cheaper option. To be honest 60 cm sat dishes are cheap to buy.

Is the UK terrestrial signal poor even with a high gain aeriel?
