    Hi All,

Likely, after many false starts.... that I will finally be moving over. As always finding a place to live is the big thing to get sorted.

I know Barking isnt Chelsea but is it really bad???

Any help appreciated:):):):) ( Any other areas where a one bed is available for less than 900pcm also appreciated:D)

I don't live in Barking but work in a neighbouring borough.. But have contact with people there and my colleagues have told me its not the nicest of areas. It's not the most pleasant place visually either, crime rate a bit higher than other surrounding boroughs and sadly tops a lot of 'chav' polls....

Saying that, there may be pockets of nice areas I don't know about.. There are nicer places on the central line that aren't too far from Barking?

It's not Chelsea, but it isn't far from Essex ;)

Where will you be working OP?

not the most desirable of areas but has train links, shops etc...but not somewhere you would want to socialise too much..try around Leyton, Plaistow, Forrest Gate if you need to be in the east end..

I did driving lessos and test in Barking. I live in Bermondsey (great flat, roughish end ) and i used to live in Croydon. From what I've seen of Barking, I'd avoid it like the plague. Apart from usual deprivation, it seems to suffer significantly from tensions between what remains of the "British" citizenry and new arrivals. Hot bed of BNP and supposedly militant immigrant groups. All goes to a fairly negative vibe.

Barking's a little on the rough side, but I wouldn't say no. You have a trade off between affordable but not in the best area, and expensive and in a better area.

I live quite close by. Have you thought of Ilford, or Manor Park? If you work in the city then Ilford could be ideal. The National Rail goes Ilford, Stratford, Liverpool St for some morning and some evening trains (about 20 minutes). You could go further out to Gidea Park, Romford or Harold Wood (which is very nice).

Manor Park is quite nice as well, and probably wouldn't be the most expensive place to live.

I was in Buckhurst Hill today! Nice spot actually, coffee shops and cobblestones, pity bout the fake tan.. But it is a nice area. I think Loughton and Chigwell are as well.
